I haven't actually suffered any 'consequences' of 'sharing too much of my personal life' with people. I gave an example so you might understand why someone might additional privacy. Other MMOs allow you this privacy. You're allowed to opt out of realID, you can shut off battle.net ports. I don't actually use facebook myself, why would I? I mean, people are naturally social and will share personal information. That's a given. You're making some big assumptions there when I was just trying to help you understand my point. I'm not asking devs to save me or anyone from mistakes, I'm asking for some basic privacy that other mmos provide. It seems ridiculous that the only 'escape' you get from accidentally befriending a jerk is quitting or remaking from 0.
Anyway, I see that you play on Faerie. Mmmmmm. Balmung is a different beast entirely. Ever heard of Tumblr? Say one wrong thing (even if it isn't even wrong or that bad), you're on B L A S T. If you have no idea what that means, then you have no idea why anyone would want this privacy. That aside, does anyone really need a reason to want privacy online? Myself, I would only really opt out of the lodestone on an array of lvl 60 alts. My main, Arvid Greave, would remain. Why wouldn't I want potential statics or pvp parties to see my gear?
And Lilith Cale, I see your point as well. I just think it's a bit strange to not have the option to opt out. Especially if the option is only given to those with no previous offenses on their account. I mean, if we're taking the stance of 'don't give out your personal info' we could also take the stance of 'keep better watch of your fc' but Balmung is.. different. I see your side of this. But I also think, people change, people should have the right to go off the grid. No? Case by case basis I guess. I just think privacy for all is better than no privacy for anyone.
Gosh, I would actually PAY to have an 'offline' mode. But I imagine that would be abused.
Here is an example, happening right now. Notice the servers:

Let's look at one post here.

I may not agree with what she posted, but there is absolutely no escape for her. None. There is no way for her to get any privacy in game. Do you understand now what I mean?
