    FFXIV and the Ps4 Pro.

so I was thinking now the ps4 pro is announced and coming out in November I wonder what may happen for those pro players when they play on this game,

    it's mainly just thinking but
would pro players ( ps4 pro players... pspro players? eh better) get a higher graphic setting much like the high PC settings higher then the current ps4 graphical setting

will the net code and rendering be more reliable allowing more models on screen?

will pspro players get a solid 60 FPS even during heavy loads?

mainly just dumb musings but I wonder what you guys think of for this, like what would you like to see on the pspro from ffxiv, or what would ffxiv do on ps pro with the higher power on it.

this post may be badly written with some grammar mistakes, I'm eating dinner while typing this so sorry.

Yeah I wouldn't mind that quicker load times, nicer looking graphics and what not.

The game will run as is on PS4Pro from day 1, unmodified. SE are free to patch the game with additional graphics options much like they allow PCs of varying specifications run the game with the player choosing how hard to squeeze the hardware.

However there are a few things that will come simply from running the game on a PS4 Pro.
    • Load times should be shorter (faster drive & memory)
    • Graphics will be buttery smooth at 1080p (GPU upgraded)
    • Graphics may show greater fidelity thanks to additional display quality perks from the system (not the game), such as better anti-aliasing. (GPU Upgraded)
    • Framerates in extremely busy areas will be much less prone to stuttering. (CPU & GPU upgraded plus faster memory)

The 1TB drive will have higher peak transfer speeds than a half TB drive. This will translate to better load times.
Performance as a whole will be better because the CPU clock is higher and the CPU cores are not the exact same jaguar units on the PS4. AMD confirmed in spring that they could not simply die-shrink the Jaguar cores on the PS4 APU, and so they would either require some optimization or a more recent core would be needed. I haven't seen any specific confirmation on the use of Jaguar cores, but if they have stuck with Jaguar cores, they will likely be a bit better optimized due to design changes to facilitate a die shrink and higher clock rate. This translates into the game smoothly handling more things/characters at a time.

The GPU has twice the number of cores and Compute units (CUs) compared to the regular one along with a faster clock. Just those changes mean that it's almost 2 and a half times more powerful than what's in the original PS4. But, the GPU cores in the PS4Pro are the more recent 'Polaris' GPU cores from AMD, they are more efficient and capable than what is in the original PS4. It's hard to quantify the performance gained by using Polaris cores, but there is a gain.
Putting the faster CPU and GPU together with faster memory translates to better performance still because the system is able to keep those fancy new GPU cores fed with the data they need.

All in all I would expect the new system to have about a 25-30% boost on the CPU side, The GPU will be approximately 3 times more powerful in practice (but on paper it's more like 2 and a half times).

The system and game will feel far more responsive, and graphics on a 1080p screen will look better than the same game running on a PS4.

If SE patches in 1440p rendering scaled up to 4K (native 4K is unlikely in a game like FFXIV), then on a 4K screen, the game will look about as good as it does on an equivalent PC.

Of course the functionality of the game on PS4 vs PS4Pro will be identical.

Still not worth upgrade in my opinion. Game runs fine on my PS4 as is anyway.
