Why is there two preset resolution for 1920 x 1080 60hz?

Just as the title suggest, why is there two preset resolution for 1920 x 1080 60hz is there any difference in the two?

    Hi,

I figured this one out I think. I'm running a GTX1080 GPU via HDMI. When I look at the Nvidia settings, the resolution shows twice there two, one under HD, one under PC. So, I then swapped the HDMI cable for a DVI cable, and the second resolution went away.

I don't think there is anything wrong with FFXIV. It is simply grabbing the resolutions from the PC, and at least with my card, it reports that one twice. As for a difference between the two, perhaps one is HD the other not? I didn't actually test that bit.

    Hope that helps.

It couldn't be a bug... if not they would have fix it long ago. If anyone knows why, please give a clear explaination thanks. Kinda important to me:X

pttb000000 above you gave about as clear an explanation as I think you can get. The NVIDIA driver is reporting that resolution twice, therefore FFXIV (when it reads that list of resolutions) also sees it twice.

Maybe it didn't do it in older NVIDIA drivers and maybe it'll be fixed in a newer driver, but going on what they said, it's basically down to NVIDIA to fix, not Square Enix.

The difference has to do with how many BPC (Bits per channel), I run at 4k and have 2 options in the game that seem identical, however in my Nvidia control panel they have alternate uses in the advanced section, one is 8 BPC the other is 10 BPC, if your monitor does not support more than 8 BPC you will visually see no difference, if it does, things like gradient colors will appear smoother (less muddy), but it's still very difficult to distinguish them apart without having a still image.

The example above has been exaggerated to allow even people with less than 10 bpc ability to see it, it does not mean you can render 10 bpc.
