Assembling your own gaming PC is something that seems like a huge hassle but a very rewarding experience. For people who don't really use the PC a lot, it's really hard to justify the trouble.

For those who made the dive, the only reason to buy consoles would be exclusive games. I bought my PS4 for FFXV and Horizon Zero Dawn. Both are yet to be released so I'm bashing myself with a brick for not holding out longer. I would have bought the PS4 Pro directly if I had waited. That's also the problem with consoles. It's discrete and significant upgrades all the time. A whole new machine every time.

But compared with the PC it's still small money. The PC has moving goalposts when it comes to target performance, while console performance remains consistent, stable and reliable.

In the end it's all about what you buy it for. If the game you want to play only comes on the console, all the reasons for the PC won't help you and vice versa. For me, I'm only planning to upgrade to 4K when the 1080-equivalent graphics cards will be able to push 100fps on big AAA titles of the time. That justifies a 4K display, which would then justify a 4K-capable console.
