Apparently, new player means no one can look anything up anymore

Long story short, this kind of scenario is a usual occurrence in leveling dungeons. I queue for random leveling dungeon. We end up in cutter's cry with this guy who is playing a level 40 LNC (yep, not DRG), in early 30s gear (his main weapon was even worse) who died like 8 times because he didn't even bother to dodge basic AoE attacks. Didn't know a single boss fight. Died 3 times during the chimera fight. His excuse? "first run!"

Now I know that there some new players who actually do look up basic dungeon tactics before queueing and I know that people make mistakes (I make plenty of mistakes myself). But when someone obviously does not give enough crap to look up their class or a basic dungeon run. Why would me or anyone else want them to get carried to 60 and continue doing the same thing?

When the game was new there was no videos to look up, those first people through and to figure it out themselves. I do not look at videos on new dungeons, I prefer to experience it first hand not through a video. It spoils it for me watching a video before I do it.

As for the class why don't you offer some advice to the new player and help them out a bit so they can get better instead of complaining.

I disagree a poor game design is one that expects you to have to go to a website to look things up. So quest says at 30 go get job/class quest, no new player knows that this is exactly when you are going to become a DRG etc (well unless they asked/was told). Yes they should look at the next reward on the quest but hey you guys are teaching them that it is all rush rush rush.

As for looking up dungeons yes I do it (but only after I have experienced it without guides on update day/week), but I disagree that you should have to. Some of you old timers need to remember how many times you died first time. Also he said first time I bet no one on the run took 2 secs out to explain anything.

Your post is pretty condescending of this player. Yes he is bad for not avoiding aoes and not doing job quests. Did you talk to him? Did you ask if he even knew about it or did you just clap your hands and said "This player is dumb go away!"

I have never expected anyone to look up strats for a dungeon. It's ridiculous. All of the dungeons are so easy to explain you don't and shouldn't need to read a guide to do queue up for them.

This is ridiculous. I think it's more shameful that you couldn't take 30 seconds to explain cutter's cry. It's simple to do so.

Actually no. The game tells you what the next class/job quests are for. I made a new fresh character now for fun and every time I unlock a new class quest it reminds me that i should do it ASAP cause it gives me new gear and abilities. Also the main scenario points you towards the Hall of the Novice that teaches you, among other things, that dodging aoe is important.

So no. If you can't dodge AoE attacks at all and did not unlock your job 10 levels after it became available, you are just not trying.

Also it is considered good manners to not play the guessing game and be up front about not knowing what to do. I usually tell that I am a first timer even if I did read the tacts.

I have never looked up any guide for an 4-man dungeon, standard trial, hard mode trial, 8 man dungeon, or 24 man raids. It's so much more fun going into something with some mystery.

As far as gear... As a new player if he hasn't been doing dungeons- just fates and potd, I could see having some gear issues.

As far as class quest, the game never instructs you well that at 30 with an alternate class lvled to 15 you start getting more skills than listed on your actions page. I would suggest just talking to him.

I got to sastasha normal with a person wearing green leaf and wearing crafter stats. The main thing a healer,,/caster would want it into/mind/vit. That is a stat that even in single player it shows you. If it weren't that they are forced to use a wand, they would have uses a crafter gear to look cool? We gave a lot (I mean A LOT) suggestions to this new player for their heals were for 25 hp using cure. Dps ands and tank got to get aggro and the tank got toeven get heals cuz the tank died at least 6 times in the last boss.

A agree with ExKage, I never understood why people think others have to know what they doing 100% of the time (having to look up guides for everything before you do anything). People that think this needs to be done do you do this for everything. Skip to the end of the book and read the ending before you start reading the book or skip to the end of the movie before watching it. These are basic dungeons not end game raiding. The whole gear/level can't dodge AoE is totally different subject though.

The guy did state first time though as the poster stated, I never said it doesn't show you, I said it doesn't show the importance of having the job. Palace of the dead shows them that they can go all the way to 60 without any problems inside. So why would they think that the missing skills are that important?

I don't think you have to go looking for strategies and guides for regular normal mode dungeons, they are simple enough and a simple sentence is enough to explain mechanics in a fight... if the person speaks your language and actually reads.

I just gotta wonder where you find bad players like these. I mean, its painfully obvious that standing in the red is bad and in ARR content some of the AoEs give ample time to dodge. Maybe horrible lag? Trying to connect to the server when its half way across the planet?

I suspect the person behind that player is the type that is says "I don't want to read, just give me the action! Story? Quests? I don't care, just want to kill stuff!". Sad too since once they get to level 30 a message now pops up telling them a job is available and a quest opens up right where you finish the level 30 class quest that tells you about the job.

It is a sad truth that this happens quite a bit from what I hear from people in forums and in my FC. Hopefully the person will wise up once he notices they can't get ahead in regular content down the line... or get frustrated the game isn't handing him everything easy and quit.
