the dungeons i've been in with no job attached took WAY longer to finish than a 30 minute penalty. As another poster said, 30 minutes to get to the second boss is about rightWhile I agree that folks should stay up-to-date on their class/job quests, I do want to point out that there is NO content from 45-49 that can't be completed with a completely gimpy tank. Or no tank at all. I have personally completed runs of Dzemael Darkhold, Aurum Vale, and Cutters Cry as a three-man party with no tank, and while I haven't actually done Garuda that way, she's been nerfed so hard that I'm guessing it's possible. There's no way that even a terrible tank that can't hold hate for crap is going to make such a situation worse.
By leaving such a group, and accepting the 30 minute penalty, you are punishing only yourself, because you could have instead finished the run in those thirty minutes with the gimpy group you entered with.
I'd give a few levels of leeway after 30, so Brayflox could still have classes. While it's important for tanks right away, some of the DPS jobs are basically just a stat boost at the cost of fewer cross-class skills up until they get another quest or two. NIN, for instance, doesn't start to feel like much of a job until getting Katon and Raiton from the level 35 quest. At 30, all they get is Fuma Shuriken, which isn't all that great. (I think I've only ever used it when soloing if I wanted to pull a mob from a greater distance than the throwing daggers can, but in group content pulling is up to the tank.) Though personally I've always gotten and used my jobs right away, even if it was just for the stat boost, I know some players who prefer to wait until their job skills are more useful than the cross-class ones they replace.
So maybe around 35 or 40 they could start making it a requirement (except in pre-formed parties).
SE could fix this issue in the simplest of ways. Just make all ilvl 115 and above equipment for jobs only. No more of 'LNC/DRG' on that spear. It's DRG only now.
Give people some leeway up to level 50 to finish grinding some fates and what-not. But as soon as you start wanting to put on those 3.0 non-glamour crafteds, you gotta get serious. Especially if they ever plan on actually deprecating classes, this will save them some effort in the long run.
I stand by what I said. Remember that not only do you have to factor in the 30 minute penalty, you also need to factor in the time that you spend with the new group that you wind up in. Even if they're top notch, it's still likely going to take another 20 minutes. Groups bad enough that they STILL exceed this time are incredibly rare, not the epidemic the original poster seems to be implying.

Actually Fuma is prefer over Raiton due to less gcd clipping issues, and its fun to run content without soul crystal, I once tank EX Seph on a Marauder just for the heck of it.

Maybe they are already planning this for 4.0 but I think the best longterm solution is to swap what level cross class skills are learned 31+ to under level 30, move all class learned skills 31+ to jobs, and cap all classes at level 30.
There is no excuse when they complete thier level 30 class quest another one pops up that tells they which secondary class they need to level to 15.Truth be told i ran in to arcanist in my mentor roulette the other day. so i just asked like hey what class are u going for? he said smn but he didn't know how to unlock it , so i told him what he had to lvl up to get the job he seeks . maybe they do not know how to unlock it maybe?
I agree this should be mandatory to have your job crystal to que for 35+ content.
Neither of them have any GCD clipping issues. Ninjutsu and the mudra skills that build up to it are all instant, so it's pretty easy to put together the whole sequence for any of them in between GCD skills. Fuma is as fast as you can tap two buttons. Raiton is as fast as you can tap three buttons. Even the later ones that need four buttons take under a second total.
I realize I was somewhat overstating it though in suggesting I didn't use it. Until the better skills were unlocked at 35, Fuma Shuriken did at least add an instant attack to occasionally use between GCD attacks. But except for a longer range (25 yalms rather than 15) it's a pretty mediocre one. Once you reach 35 and have the choice of either a 240 potency attack or a 360 potency one, and either is going to use up your Ninjutsu cooldown timer just the same, it's not much of a contest.
Oh, I agree, though it's the sort of thing to do with friends and not something suitable for a DF party where the other members weren't planning on an extra challenge like that. It's why I suggested excluding pre-formed parties from any requirements in this regard:
I don't think anyone sits at the computer and dutifully waits for the 30 minute penalty to count down. Typically I'll do something else meanwhile.I stand by what I said. With haton ur gcd is gonna get lower down to 2sec, Raiton is takes .5 sec extra and have a long animation lock that will clip into ir next gcd. It has been knew to most raider. Thats why u see alot of ninja using fuma instead. Only time to really use Raiton is with kassatsu or when ur not able to hit something right away with gcd.Neither of them have any GCD clipping issues.
