Itching for a new MMO to get into since the last one I seriously played before it was SWTOR, and EQ2 before that.

The main story was flippin amazing, I liked how the core story had everything else built around it.

The meat of my complaint?

FedEx quests. Hundreds of them.

The debate of the gated content and the expansion is something that cant really be understood until you've actually experienced it.

I didn't wanna burn myself out on the crap quests. Keep in mind of course that I'm already annoyed that a majority of these are ESSENTIAL.

200+ in! Heavensward! But no! Guess what?! Trials! Hard mode! Nope totally not that easy. Cause you gotta do ANOTHER. QUEST. CHAIN. to unlock said hard modes.

Cant stomach more. I learned exactly what gated content is, how the main story goes OUT OF ITS WAY to make you do irrelevant stuff.

At this point I'm glad I haven't subbed up and have 60 days free game time.

TL;DR

FFXIV is crap for new players, dont buy it.

And the hard mode primals require a trip to Vesper Bay to unlock, it's hardly unreasonable...

Actually its not really gated at all. You just grab some friends and go unsynced if you want to move through it fast.

What does the level 50 FSH quest have anything to do with this? I don't recall part of the main story requiring this.

Agreeing with what others have said though, if you didn't want a story-involved game, then look away from Final Fantasy titles.

This is Final Fantasy. Even the bricks which makes the Sultana Palace has a story.

It is better log in, make a character, and automatically have all uncloked without any explanation at all?

Hey making the same reference the quest does: read the hitchhikers series and you may meet some dolphines giving out this message when the earth is about to get destroyed. Clever little creatures they are... nothing against mice though, ofc

Yes FF is known for the story but this isnt a single player FF game, its an mmo so they shoved a load of fetch quests in to bulk it up.

All the FF games I've played never had such mundane fetch quests. So the 'but its a FF game' argument is a bit redundant.

Look I'm all for the Story, it's a huge selling point for me, I wish there wasn't a character limit so I could explain and be explained to.

The problem is NOT the story, or even it's length. It's the nonsense between.

Like getting some ribs but they are 75% bones and gristle.

Example. Why the heck do I have to run all the way to Limsa Limosia to pick up a sledgehammer for Tatarou? That quest has ZERO impact on the story.

Shoot even the whole food quest before the Titan fight had SOME barring, even if it fell flat imo.
