    Damaged gear appearance!

So, we all have been through great battles with god-like foes. though it's kinda weird that we come out of the fight unscathed. our skin without a single scratch and our gear in perfect condition (at least in appearance). so i was thinking maybe damaged versions of gear could be added. say you have your beautiful gear at 100% condition, and that when it reaches a 50% condition it would change into a damaged version of the same with maybe some damage on our character's body! it would be cool in my opinion. making our characters look less "extremely overpowered".

They'd have to make new models for every single piece of visible gear or apply some sort of effect. Not really worth the time.

    Don't touch my skin!...

As long as they don't touch my skin (as in damaging it) I'm fine with gear getting visibly damaged!...

Most cool games out there know something called collision damage (or similar) and Square Enix well known for great graphics can't possibly fall behind!...

Maybe it will happen in 4.0 when they remake the whole game in 4K (I really hope), it would be nice to see parts of gear being chipped away, just like the clothing damage in Dead of Alive 5!...

No time for that?, please, don't fool yourself, SE can do whatever they want if they decide to do so, the time they don't spend in this game is spent making several others which don't benefit us at all!...

I really think this will use up too many resources and won't likely to happen.

Maybe once they get around to have decent textures they can get on dynamic gear wear and tear.

We can't even mail alts yet, like in every other game EVER. Not happening!

Not really, all they'd have to do is introduce a function that, once gear repair gets to a set percentage, dulls the gear. No new models & not really an added effect, merely a shift in the colour wheel (actually, a shift in the chroma). To make it even easier still they could just turn the gear a set colour at a defined repair level.

These abilities are already in the system as we can change colours via dyestuffs. The server would be, in essence, dyeing the gear at the preset percentage. Should be very simple with a decent game engine, which we are led to believe SE has.

So...hypothetically speaking: If people run around in a glamoured Bikini, how much can you "damage" it before things become NSFW?

Nice idea but sadly I fear that this would take to much work.
It would be kinda nice if we got more scar or burn options for our skin. Like at the beginning your character has no scars and maybe after defeating Ifrit you can go to the hair npc and get yourself a nice burn mark in your face or on your body. Or even more scars all over your body. (All of this would be optional and removable)

Or give us items to glamour which are bloody bandages? So we can pretend that we are hurt?

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Joined Ifrit HM for esoterics, got naked after 3 hits, earned 7 MVPs for being Bikini-Tank. 8/8 would fight again.

It would be nice to have some additional effects on the clothing after a longer fight (like ash/snow/dirt/wounds/s.o.).
