Request: Off-Topic forums

I'm not sure if others have suggested this, and if so I apologize.

One thing I have noticed, not just with this game, but with any online game, is that people tend to like to discuss non-game related subjects with their fellow players.

It would be really nice to have a section where we could discuss things completely not related to FFXIV. I'm not talking political, religous etc.. But if a bunch of American XIV players want to discuss the latest results of Dancing With the Stars, well... it would be nice if there was a place we could do so without a mod having to lock the thread because it isn't XIV specific.

Not so much Dancing With the Stars for me. I'm more into Sons of Anarchy. I'm for this though. It'd save them the effort of locking thread after thread for getting off-topic, especially since a vast majority of people now never stay on-topic or troll for the hell of it anyway. You got my vote.

If a bunch of American XIV players want to discuss the latest whatever, they can go to one of the many forums around the web that talk about said topic. If they insist they want to do so with XIV players onry, there are plenty of xiv fan forums out there with an off topic session.

Some people seem to think that just adding an off topic forum will solve all trolling and posting issues on the general discussion; this is wrong, sorry. It may slightly reduce these, but will hardly do away with the problem while creating a whole new issue.

Do you think that you can just make an off topic area and let it run wild? Hardly. An off topic area would require even more moderation work than locking threads on the general discussion, and I'm sure you can see why, when people will start flaming and disrepecting others for many more things other than a "stupid" proposal for the game.
