How about recipes earned with skill (aka Master Books)? All these easy HW casual blue scrip master books are killing crafting. Recipes aren't earned, they are just a capped currency. Bring back the punishing ARR Master Book system imo.
Wouldn't be forced, as crafting endgame goes hand in hand with buying things on the marketboard, if you don't want to do other content then you can buy it.

Though would it really be that farfetched anyway? We already have crafting mats that drop in EX modes, and you can't exactly get very far in crafting without completing the battle class-only story.

Ugh, I played a MMO with this and disliked it. If I'm going to need RNG to be able to even think of crafting something, I want it to come through crafting things, which I can do solo (ie, Master Books). I don't want to fight over a rare drop in battle content...

It depends on where you find them, what items the recipes cover and how accessible are they.

You know that if they spread out the recipes and make it an insufferable grind to get (you know it will be, its guaranteed) then it would alienate even more people from crafting and that is not good for anybody.

I don't see how it would be much a grind.

Could be primal drops, random drops from overworld mobs, or even leve rewards or something. There's lots of places they could put them.

To be honest, I would rather run a dungeon with a 15% drop rate for a recipe than to monotonously gather a TON of items (or spend a ton of gil buying them), and then craft a whole bunch of the same thing with a macro while half asleep and half watching YouTube.

Do people really think it takes skill to get the Master Craft books? It just takes time and patience and or gil. That's it. There is no skill involved. Some luck but no skill.
Getting the master books was easy and boring as could be. At least, this is how I personally felt about it. I have a hard time understanding how getting master craft books through repetitive gathering and crafting can be exciting.

Give us that "Oh! What is this new recipe that just dropped!?" feeling. Or, even if we know it could drop, I would much rather have that "Is it going to drop this time?" feeling than "Okay. I need 3000 blue scrips. If I craft this and it gives me 100 blue scrips each time, that means I need to craft 30 of them. Now let's see...that means x adamantite, x hallowed water, x crystals, and x something other junk. Considering the pop rate of adamantite nodes and the amount gathered per node...it will take me approximately x hours to get enough." feeling.

Could it get boring? At least giving us dungeons to run and hoping for a drop keeps us on our toes and our adrenaline flowing.

This is a horrible idea. It would be like "I love crafting in this game, lets see what new recipes I can get... so I can't craft anything good because I have to run X content until I get lucky? Who thought this was a good idea?" type of situation.

Perhaps they can make some special, not important, glamours drop from places but, again, the drop rate is what would make or break the idea.

It does have negatives and positives, but it works in MMOs that are much more successful than this game. I agree with Fina more or less, everyone has master books, they are too easy to get and they aren't special, it doesn't feel cool to get them. Gives us some neat recipes to find or earn in other ways, imo. Even if it's just dungeon-level gear or glamour, it would still be nice.

I've played MMOs where crafting items only dropped in raids and all it does is make the raiders rich and the crafters paying out the nose for things they need. No thank you. I like that crafting is actually viable here, unlike many other MMOs I've played.

Never heard of that-nor have I ever seen an MMO where crafting wasn't viable, so I feel your point is not even close to what I am suggesting, as I never said to put them in savage raids exclusively.
