But it was too much, it was so much to render and load at once. That doesn't sound bad, but the optimization and coding in 1.0 was trash.

This meant only beefy PCs at the time could run the game, and even they had bizarre hiccups. The joke that a flowerpot in 1.0 had as much detail and pixels as your avatar wasn't too far from the truth, and the open world was a barren wasteland of highly textured ground. :/

This version couldn't scale to PS3, let alone less than high-grade PCs, and SE had promised/contracted from day 1 to put XIV on the platform.

Thus, one of the first orders of business for 2.0 was to create a new graphics engine that could be scaled down to function on PS3, while simultaneously filling the world with detail.

The issue now is gaming has graphically gotten past 1.0, let along 2.0, and PS4 and current PCs could pull off the higher detail.
