    I had a moment

Just heard this on a youtube video and as a long time DnD player it resonated. THIS is what is missing from the mmo community. Something that binds us so strongly as table top gamers is so lacking in online gaming.

"The point of DnD is not to win or become the strongest player in your group. It's to learn to work together so that each players advantages can be used for the entire parties benefit."

When the reset button is constantly being hit and rewards are equal for soloists and overall pretty limited how can you learn what is best for a group? Add that to content that is fairly limited and discarded quickly, bottlenecking things more and battle that is more hitting 1 2 3 than thinking on your feet. People cannot fight in a group dynamic and groups have a hard time staying together because there is no need for them to.

Where is the adventure in adventuring?

Maybe the devs should look away from what WoW is doing and take a look at what table top games are doing. Or just get creative and think of something unique, interesting and innovative themselves (but let's face it, we know that isn't going to happen anymore, at least not in XIV).

This is not a criticism btw, just an ahhhhhh ok moment followed with a bleeeerg one

I'm not sure how long people want the gear to last.

Like lets say the highest level is 250 next update, how long should the devs wait until raising it to 260? They could release new dungeons with new gear but if nothing makes the characters more powerful, how long would the non glamour hunters be running it?

I'd say: Totally dependend on the GM and the players. I had powercreep sessions and more rp focussed session playing D&D. Limits are your fantasy and tbh the quote isn't thaaat true... we had also runs with evil characters, where it was in-game that everyone wanted to become the strongest/mightiest/richest player in our group and to learn to work together for our own advantages and not for the entire parties benefit.

And tbh... DnD might be the worst example. XD
Just look how it "developed" from aD&D to D&D3.0/3.5 and D&D 4.0 (supporter, striker, healer, tank as roles.. lol, is this an MMORPG or what?).

And even without that D&D was always the Hack&Slay P&P RPG with the most standardized combat system and the most vertical character/gear progression with every class capable of fighting (and even a healer would always deal damage, at least with his quarter staff... unless there are good reasons rp wise).. compared with Vampire, Warhammer Fantasy, Cuthullu, Shadow Run, etc.

I was under the impression it was PnP games in general, but D&D is probably the most widely know, so was used as the example?

The problem is that to keep an online game running, it requires tons of staff, equipment, facilities, electricity, etc.
Unfortunately, it's a completely different thing.

It means they need to keep as many people playing it as long as possible. Increasing item levels regularly, adding new slightly better gear, allowing various methods to obtain that gear (be it solo or in a group), and adding dungeons with similar mechanics to everything in the past, gives the developers a very quick and simple way to create content that everyone can complete, and therefore, feel a sense of achievement that will keep them playing.

The bond between players may not be very strong, but people are getting a regular sense of accomplishment. Enough to keep them playing and enough to keep the money coming in to support the game and all the employees.

For my work, I need to create original content. But it is just not possible to create 100% original content for every client. In other words, I reuse a lot of things, but I add a few new things each time. If I were to create more original content, more creative content, I would need to hire some staff. And then my prices would go up.
I see that a lot with updates in this game too. Almost everything is just a small tweak on an already existing system. Maybe 1 or 2 new features are added and some new items to give people something new to get.
    It keeps people happy enough.

I agree there could be more flexibility and creativity. More need to think on our feet to clear content and consider each party member's strengths and weaknesses.
(But I think Savage content does this pretty well, even though I've only done it a little.)

But with their resources, I think it's really asking a lot. Coming from someone who makes her own content for work, I know it's really tough to think of a completely new idea AND implement it AND have it be well received.
Think of all the hours and time wasted if the developers created something entirely new, and then the majority of players hated it?
