Well, all of it went down after the final save, so the devs were pretty much free to f*ck with us as much as they wanted..xD
During that time I lost like half of my fortune on repairs and arrows and the like

Was it actually fun somehow, or was it only memorable?
My favorite part was when they spawned the max Level monsters. That wasn't even a challenge anymore, it was just brutal death and nothing else.
That's when people went down on their knees and prayed to The Twelve...and they answered.
And every single monster that enough players used /pray on died (killed by invisible GMs). It was glorious *___*

As well as the giant Goobbue wall in front of the Ul'dahn gates before the invasion,

and then, on the day of the end, the final march together with the entire server populace by foot or chocobo, to Mor Dhona to have the final battle against the Garleans.
It was buggy and messy and all, but we had those Lvl 100 opponents from the launch trailer and then it all shut down and the End of an Era cutscene played..I cried that day .-.

It was fun, challenging and completely mad and I'm kind of sad we can never have something like this again because it would mess up people's progress.

For those of you who don't understand this.. The Garlean Empire quite literally invaded all 3 city and killed players in town.
Not actually totally correct - the only city that was directly attacked gameplay wise (as clearly shown in your screenshots) was Ul'dah - Limsa Lominsa and Gridania never were. This was actually for technical reasons (as well as a sly jab at the players by Yoshi to stop idling in Ul'dah or at aetheryte camps all the time as it was literally breaking the game.). All those people clustered together in the one place for long periods rendered the Ul'dah Inn Room completely broken and inaccessible to the point SE could not fix it, due to 1.0's terrible server infrastructure and Crystal Tools being so impotent that it couldn't handle more than ten characters on screen at once, instead employing a work-around by entering it via an npc who was hastily added to the Gold Court, and thus you could never again access the Inn Room directly through the Quicksand in 1.0 - that work around remained in place to the very end. Thus clearly showing clearly to everyone the real reasons why 1.0 was shut down and replaced with ARR.

Still, the last day before the Calamity was an amazing event that I will never forget (even though I was booted off the server with an error half an hour before the end and could not log back in).

Not true, Limsa and Gridania were attacked inside the city, just not on the scale Ul'dah was.

I made some videos of the event so I could go back and watch years later. Enjoy :3

Might as well share some goodies:

Side note: I am still angry at SE for taking away darklight boots from bards >_<

    Also.. Hildibrand's exit from 1.0:

Bonus points from 1.0 that I miss a LOT

The *REAL* Miasma weather that would terrify the hell out of anyone that's in Mor Dhona when the weather kicks in.

the Ferry...even though it was buggy at first

    ...and the companion I've had..

    ...This Ifrit Cutscene

I've read bits and pieces about the lead up to the closure of 1.0, but this is the first time I've heard of these invasions - and I think they look epic. The Imperials are kind of soft in our version in my opinion, it would be great to see some kind of implementation of invasions that appear sporadically - even rarely. It would make total sense, even with a "master plan", there would still be occasions where Imperials encroached onto our territory, and we'd have to deal with it. Maybe rare fate spawns in city locations? Similar timers to Odin?

Thank you for sharing these! I've seen videos, now screenshots. I read about the invasion but reading it in detail was really amazing. It feels like it made everyone feel way more immersed into the events going on in the world at the time. *_* I hope we get to experience something ground shaking like that, minus the server closing of course! Just ... bravo to the devs and the GMs for this amazing experience.

The RP community would have a field day with that one. Regardless, the story explains that the empire is focusing their forces on the castrums.
