Yes, it was slow...and it has flaws. But for me, it would have been more interesting to fix the flaws without remaking the whole game to feel like any other MMO out there.
Even though ARR has a lot of brilliant ideas.

Oh I do agree. I thoroughly enjoyed v1 and I miss it dearly.
I also liked the gameplay for what it was, but it just struck me as being much slower while watching again recently.
...
Anyway, here are a few more pictures from before the end.
A panorama of Coerthas from near the entrance to Dzemael Darkhold during the aurora weather phase. This was truly beautiful!
Most of us couldn't get to Mor Dhona for the battle at Carteneau Flats, so we made our stand and defended Ul'dah which was being attacked by Chimeras. Remember being able to ride our chocobos inside the cities?
Even though I think we all knew it was hopeless, we charged ahead and fought on.
And then I watched in awe as Dalamud fell from the sky.

Thank you all for sharing the screenshots and videos, makes me remembered my v1 days a bit.
Though I was mostly a crafter then, so didn't really get to do or worry about MSQ at the time. FFXIV v1 was fun and beautiful, even w/ it's flaws. Like some I came back thinking that in v2 is gonna be the same w/ upgrades. Didn't expect it to be a whole different game, while v2 is good like other games that are out there right now, I to will miss the v1 days.

Thanks very much for this, I am quite sad I came in 2.0 and didn't try 1.0.
I really wish we could get some invasions and stuff like that even in our version, because I really miss some kind of danger in the world and the need to group up..
Some live events before expansion would be epic!

AHHH! The feeels!!! Hecking the bed for relics, trying to get around Uldah without dying a TERRIBLE death, Goobues EVERYWHERE, crying during that final cutscene only to end up in hysterics when the server crash message popped up! Making great friends in the last couple days, not knowing if you would end up on the same server. The game had TONS of problems, but for all its flaws, 1.0 was really great and I leave FFXIV with some wonderful memories, true friendships, and some really poor quality screen shots! I have NO clue how I managed to played 1.0 on a LAPTOP...
.... I'll have to break out lappy 1.0 to get the rest of my pictures....

I started in 2.0 myself. It's always interesting learning about the 1.0 story and gameplay elements.
Thank you to everyone sharing their screenshots and experiences.![]()
It's a shame we don't get to see similar events unfold in more recent times. I'd love to see the game's antagonists feel like they're a considerable threat and actually cause a fair bit of damage instead of being confined to instances, cutscenes or just blocked by the 'Cid', 'Hydaelyn' or 'Warrior of Light' plot devices.
Especially since this is a Final Fantasy game and whilst many people liked the likes of Cloud there's plenty of people who prefer the likes of Rufus and Sephiroth.

Bring 1.0 textures back.

Great thread! I didn't play 1.0 because I wasn't into mmos at the time (ARR is my first). Your dramatic and often humerous retelling of those events make me wish I could have been there fighting to the last. Thanks for sharing your memories =]
