You know when I first went to Ul'dah, I got excited to hear the version of Answers you're talking about only to be disappointed. At first anyway. One of the themes of the Rising is not only to remember the calamity but also to look forward to the future. It's not being dramatic. It's being honest. That music is the Rising. Without it, the event shouldn't exist. The event is plenty "changed up" by the fact that it has completely different content each year. What makes these events with different content qualify as being the same event is their one unifying element, that theme music. A theme which this year is missing, so yes, that's broken.
(And all that's completely apart from the fact that it's also the most beautiful music in the entire game. It's bad enough that it's only available once a year, but if we can't even get it that once, the game has lost its best element.)
After the shenanigans on the 18th floor last year with that crazy minstrel, we got a heartfelt thank you that was pretty hard to top. A thank you for sticking around even through the game's many faults, and a promise that the devs are trying their best to entertain and learn from their mistakes in the content to come. This year...
We starred as the lead role in a play reenacting the calamity and the Warrior of Light's grand return. Although Louisoix is defeated, he is able to power us up enough to fell Bahamut in one super punch. (That whole play was super adorable by the way! Smiled all through it.)
An interesting retelling of events to be sure. The confetti pop would make medieval Michael Bay proud.
All in all, I find it likely that the Rising event has gone from a foreboding reminder of Eorzea and the devteam's past mistakes to a celebration looking at how far the world and the game has come since those events happened. If I'm allowed to be cheesy, we are still looking heavensward.

I was disappointed as i wanted to watch the fireworks as it played.

I also like that version of Answers and have some fond memories attached to it. I'm ok that they change the theme music though.
Personally, the event should be both. A time to remember those that we lost in the Calamity and the hardships of that time. It should also be a time to celebrate the rebirth of Eorzea anew and the hopes that came with it.

Reading too much of the forums makes me very sad and apathetic.

Yeah, I had the exact same thought. I went into the Rising event and was so disappointed when I went to hear that hauntingly beautiful music...only to be rebuffed with that real basic FF theme. Like, bro...I've heard that music so often before.
Except that the Rising Event isn't about that. It's always about looking back to ensure a kinder future. For years, it's the one time of the year that we as the residents of Eorzea get to reflect on the earlier tragedies and how it's shaped the current world. Changing the music distances the reverence of the original tone. All in all, I find it likely that the Rising event has gone from a foreboding reminder of Eorzea and the devteam's past mistakes to a celebration looking at how far the world and the game has come since those events happened. Download Answers (Reprise) or load it on youtube, turn off BGM, play said track. Done!
It's how I do it since I bought the CD, and I don't have to continue to stand around Ul'dah. xD
(Not to mention it was rather low volume in-game too...)

I sort of took the change of music to signify that people had started to move on. The Rising used to be a very mournful event to mark the anniversary of so much death and destruction and remember the sacrifices of those that saved the world. This year the event seemed less mournful and more hopeful. They were celebrating all the progress they had made since the Calamity and giving thanks to those that gave their lives to let them do so.
It's actually quite a believable change I think. Many real world holidays are happy and positive celebrations that used to be very sombre and mournful ones. As the event that originally marked that holiday on the calendars fades from modern memory the nature of the holiday to remember it changes too.
That was my impression as well. It's been, what, 3 years? People seem to be ready to move on. Hope goes hand in hand with the passing of a tragedy.I sort of took the change of music to signify that people had started to move on. Go run turn 13, trust me there are plenty of us that are really sick of Answers by now (as beautiful as it is). It's not being dramatic. It's being honest. That music is the Rising. ^^^^THIS. I was sick of Answers after the first time I heard it, and it's ridiculously overused in the game. Nice to hear something different, even if it's the crystal theme that's used in just about every FF game.
This game is not WoW; if you want WoW, go play WoW. If you get butthurt when people mention Final Fantasy XI, then shut up about WoW.As much as it might hurt you, and as much as someone else brings the balance issues up, FFXI had the jobs right. And, you know, this is a FF, and I don't see you guys complaining about people asking for WoW things. So please.
Also, it's not like this dev team is being true to the roots of the jobs anyway.
