I am struggling to find anything to do. I honestly feel burnt out and I'm just curious how others deal with the situation as well.
I took a 3 month break a while ago and came back to a new patch, finished everything added in 2 days and ran Palace of the dead several times till I got bored of it and now I'm taking a short break again. The game is best played in short bursts as the only sustaining aspect of the game is the story and you finish that reaaally quickly.

Glamour is somewhat endgame, but only lasts as long as you remain interested in it and that dies down as you continue with your in game activities. Yeah I look good, but doesn't change anything gameplay wise. 1 month of play time, break, then start again. check to see if your fc members are ok with your play time though.

Making alts won't change anything either btw. After all, this game is linear and doesn't allow innovative thinking in story.

Oh, or try your hand at Role Playing, nver know, you could make your own story but its not for everyone.

I bought into the World of Warcraft Legion hype and am having a blast. I will probably only come back to this game for MSQ/Hildebrand updates and so I don't lose my in-game house. I highly recommend broadening your horizons and seeing what else is out there...it'll really help you decide whether or not FFXIV is the game for you. Plus, if you DO come back, it'll make catching up on the content you've missed all the more enjoyable.

It seems like whenever someone makes a "burnout" thread, they always close it with, "but I don't wanna quit so what should I do?". OP, why exactly don't you want to quit? Knowing what you enjoy about XIV might help us give you some insight on what would be good for you to do.

Only viable if you don't find certain activities unengaging - crafting, gathering and gold saucer would fall into this category for me. And while PvP "can" be fun...I can't enjoy it as DPS simply because the burst or bust meta healers create isn't fun to me. Frontline skirmishes without healers are a blast, tho.

Personally? I'd suggest simply playing other games for a while.

Simple. Take some time off the game, like everyone else said.

I play "Barbie" with my Miqo'te doing some glamour or housing (the worst is I'm half serious ) and mainly play less just doing a few craft, daily cactpot and that's all.

The 3.4 and even more the 4.0 start to miss.

And I spend many (too many) time on the forum bothering other players -but I try to do only humorous trolls - or add some answer.

This is the only game where I see people are suggested to play other games.
And I still think SE really doesn't want this, because it's not a good business model to tell your customers to go to their competitors, is it?

And everyone who posts here is returned from a break, because those who didn't, their sub is run out and they can't post on forums.

I don't have anything to suggest though, because I'm in same situation as OP, and I'm playing other games now. I'm scared about 3.4, as I heard, that new raid will be even easier than midas (BAD), and CDs will be reset on wipe (GOOD!!!), and it results that it will probably take us a 1 month to beat it for my static, and we have to entertain ourselves for the rest 5 months again.

I like Rufalus's suggestion of changing up gameplay. Taking a break also works well!

Anything to break up the monotony!

Create an alt. Have fun with it. I have 3, they keep me too busy I don't have time to be bored.

    *cough*
Found similar threads on the other MMO forums as well. MMO burnout is a common thing!

It's a pretty simple thing, too. MMOs, like single player games, only have so much content and not all of it will appeal to you. Once you've consumed all the content there is that appeals to you, all you can do is to wait for them to add more and entertain yourself elsewhere in the meantime. In single player games, you'd just wait for a DLC or discard the game entirely.

It's an issue caused by content taking several times longer to create than it takes to consume (Games that take thousands of work hours to create can be completed in 40 gameplay hours!). The only way out is repetition ad nauseum, which doesn't appeal to many and often just accelerates the burnout.

Plus, new games offer entirely new gameplay, something new content typically can't offer (typically because...I'm sure you can mod skyrim to become a shooter. Or platformer. Or harvest moon-type game). That's a big monotony breaker.

Taking a break might be a good idea, like everyone said.

I myself tried to spice my daily gameplay up a little, I stopped doing most roulettes, I levelled crafters and gatherers - I've been doing my second anima so very casually but still was at 52/80 before the nerfhammer hit - now I'm at 15/240. It's rather fun to idle around and watch people to chat with your friends/fc members.
Making an alt was also suggested and after that Sphere of the Last Heir Obtained Burnout hit me, I went and made my alt a Y'shtola clone on the request of my FC mate, I've had a lot of fun with her, up to the point I got her to Heavensward again.
If you don't wanna quit, ease on the dailies, drop the weeklies if they infuriate you; I've not done much A8 since I got my Slipstream Partisan exactly 8 weeks after lore was implemented.
