INCREDIBLY underwhelmed with the new tank armor contest winner

I AM SO SICK OF TANKSKIRTS!

high allagan set was cool when it came out. Then in HW they took the tankskirt/armortrenchcoat concept and RAN with it, with basically every new set of armor. I am so, so SO sick of all tanks looking like slight, skirty variations of each other. There were so many fantastic, creative entries in the tank gear competition, I was hoping any of them aside from the tankskirts would win.

What do we get? another freaking tankskirt. Either I am not this games target audience anymore, or the content creators are out of touch with what the community wants. I guess I'm making this to see whether I get mainly negative feedback- in which case this game probably isn't for me anymore, or positive feedback, in which case maybe whoever is the artistic lead, at least for tanks, should take a step back and realize how their personal preferences are leading to bland homogenization even among the glamour crowd (aka "true endgame")

Tank skirts are w/e, I'm fine with them, but the contest winner was super underwhelming. Just looks like a set of armor we would've gotten anyway. Wish something more unique would've won - like that Monster Hunter looking one (obviously not that unique, but unique enough to the game).

Every time something super speshul and unique wins, it ends up looking awful ingame, just look at the hairstyle contest

We don't really have a say in what they choose either way, at least Beberu Beru's entry was a "we will consider using this in the future" which is arguably the most appropriate design.

There is a difference between the coat and the skirt. These are two things. Personally I like tank coats, but I am willing to settle for skirts if it needs to be - it makes you look more heroic in my opinion.

You can feel like we have too many of these, but most of them look like plastic crap. There isn't enough "heavy armor" feel with the "skirts".

The contest winner seems like it could actually deliver a good tank set, but we will see how the devs do it.

It's too samey. Which is why the Berserker gear and the Vath/Gnath glamours are 10x better.

Content creators just probably chose the armor set that would be easiest to implement. Which I think is lazy but whatever.

Same. I only saw praise about this gear when the top 40ish were shown. Now its won, I've only seen negative comments. Imo it combines the beauty of High Allagan and the first coil's Allagan gear together to make this great looking set. Don't get me wrong, I loved a lot of other designs too but this one was a clear winner when I first saw it.

PS: Tank skirts are good, we have no butt on this game so covering it is the best solution >_>

Hate it. I agree with OP. Enough already with the same garb rendered just a bit different to make it qualify as a "new" piece.

You tend to see this on just about change for an MMO. One cycle you hear praise, the next you hear criticism... The main thing is it's different people. XIV has around 600k active subs, so when something is thrown into the spotlight (more than before), critics from among that very large population will, well, criticize.

Butt capes are just kind of meh to me. In even some other MMOs, it's become very common for mage/healer classes. I guess it's a way to avoid completely hiding leg gear (though most tank boots do that anyways), and perhaps to avoid those awkward physics/clipping issues that come with closed-front skirts...

True, it is common. I just don't know. I guess its very opinionated like a lot of things! I agree good armor designs can be done without butt capes, like a lot of 2.x's gear I suppose. Tank AF and Allagan all looked really good and they didn't have butt capes
