    Yes, and I can assure you it was also why even superPCs couldnt run it on Max. I had a pretty beefy PC back in 1.0 and i simply had settings on Standard due to otherwise FPS would be like 30 or less in normal crowded areas, and only about 30-50 people MAX was visible. You had to move around to see others, and see the other ones vanish from sight xD
    I think they used the GFX engine that was used in FF XIII, which is a great engine for a singleplayer FF, but not so much a MMO. Hence the complete rebuild of the engine for ARR

    It wasn't because of the texture quality I can tell you that. There were allot of things wrong with the engine textures had nothing to do with that.
