Oh yay, more butt-capes.
Oh yay, more butt-capes.
I'm terribly srry I called your gear that as I was just responding to some calling it that not realizing how rude that was. I love your design and I hoped it would win. If you ask me, yours was outlandish and actually really creative, but would fit right in with the glamours we already have. SE missed an opportunity to give this game a sweet new set of duds, their loss.
Pretty typical for people to latch anything remotely similar to a given subject when giving any sort of critique. Can't just look at it and think of the design into itself, they insist on finding anything possible to attach to it. Calling your design similar to anything PSO2-esque is a really powerful stretch, they don't have anything to go actually go on. Little light-up bits seems to be the only thing people actually catch on, and as you said, your design aesthetic actually comes from the Ironworks style, which as well had the luminous sections, yet everyone misses that. Only other thing is maybe pointy metal bits? Got that plenty as well in this game too, so really, it'd be nice if people just took designs for what they are, not what they sorta look like as something else.Oh... and btw: Its nearly impossible to create a completely "new" tank gear, because any gearset could look similiar to existing designs from the same or other games. When it doesnt like FFXIV or PSO2, it will definitely look like a copy from Aion, Tera, WoW, Blade and Soul or [insert random F2P MMORPG here] ; )
Haha, dont worry I have no problems with that xD

I personally do not enjoy the winning entry, for it does not suit my style. I'm not into bulky, full covering armor. I'm mainly disappointed there's not a variety of tank gear. Most of what we have are the same old hulking plate armor, all looking very similar. While that's fine for others, I was hoping they would pick something that would provide something different. The rules did not say they HAD to look like practical tank gear.
I know I'm not alone when I say I prefer aesthetics over practicality when it comes to tank gear. I'm just hoping gear gets released that suits both people like me, and people who prefer full plate armor. Not everyone who plays the game share the same style of armor for different roles, they should put gear out there that suits everyone. Not just for the practical.
I think many people are just very careless with their words or don't express their thoughts in a very in-depth manner so a lot of the comments here likely come off a lot ruder than the posters really intended, or at least I hope. I actually share the sentiments of the people who were hoping for a different winner. Honestly the Surcoat is absolutely stunning with it's design and detail and think the artist should be very proud of themselves. I'm genuinely, really happy such a pretty and impressive piece is making it into the game.
However...
Considering how rarely we get such events, I don't really want to latch on to the idea of picking the most impressive looking set and then deciding it was the best decision. It just seems a bit narrow-minded. Considering all of the other factors.... how often we get such events, how long it will be until the next Tank design contest(if ever), how different it looks from pre-existing sets in game.... I simply don't personally believe that it was the best choice. It'd be one thing if they picked more than one winner and said that "these sets will all DEFINITELY be implemented", but that's not what it is; they only promised one and the best we can do is hope that they choose to implement at least a couple of the others.
When people call the sets boring, I don't think they really mean to ridicule the design itself. What I'm sure they mean is more along the lines of "Plate armour is already in abundance in this game, and yes, while it suits the aesthetic and looks very impressive, I was hoping that this rare opportunity might be used to fill up less-explored areas". Take for instance a tribal aesthetic for argument's sake. We have one set I think from Sohm Al that pursued that particular design and that's it. There's nothing unfitting about a beefy, frontline warrior class showing a little skin - it's simply a different aesthetic choice and I think there was at least one of those submitted? I don't remember how nice the sets themselves were in comparison to the favourites, but the fact alone that they fit a particular area that was lacking in this game should have been detail enough to make them strong competitors for the winning title. It's not even about plate armour in and of itself. If you're familiar with the Flame Elite's harness, that chest piece is HEAVY plate but you can still see some skin which gives it a bit of a gladatorial feel. I adore that armour and would love to see more things like that implemented because they are far, far less common.
In short, people aren't upset because a bad design was chosen, they're upset because a rare opportunity for variety was lost.

I agree. But unlike the hairstyle contest, we didnt even have confusing rules to participate on the judgement so much that really it was the judges decisions ultimately about the entire thing. All of the drawings were immaculate and I'd love to see them all implemented even if some as GS(if i have to point out which ones, I guess we see differently about that issue) Hopefully, and I'd look a bit further into their comments about the works, that all the pieces are considered for implementation someday and I feel as hard of work that was presented, and how amazingly well these designs were, that they wont let them fall to the way side, Maybe as AF gear, maybe as monk/ninja/bard I would hope to see these sets implemented in the furure or most definately the designs considered greatly for designing what looks better than what we have now currently, because they were so well drawn up and done
My entry have nothing to do with the Phantasy Star Series.People say that it looks like it came from PSO2 because it looks to be on the same style as gear from that game, from the shapes to the light effects.
If you say that that it is coincidence then i will believe you, but there is a reason why everyone says "Oh, pso2" hehe
yeah, I believe u too that your entry have nothing to do with the Phantasy Star Series...I mean, it's a pure coincidence that the pose from both char's r similar![]()

You obviously don't work in fashion or any other field where you regularly, publicly display your work. If you saw any of the mannequins I've ever dressed in my career, or outfits I picked for others, you would have an opinion about them, whether you could create better looks or not. Everyone does. That's how people work. You don't need to make the salary I do to judge my work when you see it just like nobody here needs to be able to design a "better tank armor" to judge the winning look when they see it.
