About Tank Design Winner

Here is a picture of both sets (I'd paste the images here but they're both huge and don't want to blow up the forum page). There are...a lot of similarities in design; I had looked some photos up originally thinking that my original assessment wasn't quite fair, but honestly, a good number of things seem "borrowed" from the HA set. Not EVERYTHING, but in particular the chestplate/coat area and the greaves are strikingly similar in design, and the weird strips below the little ADS dongle thinger are taken from the Ironworks fending armor, just moved from the back to the front.

I can't wait to see what recolor of the Dreadwyrm Robe of Casting we'll get, and thank god I don't have to farm the mats for that dyeable HA healer robe, I can just wait for those contests to come and go!

But you know, at the end of the day, these contests are fun, and it's nice that the devs do them, even if I don't like the outcome. Even though I still maintain that there were better alternatives in the runners-up, I do feel like the developers approached the contest from a way more objective eye than the hairstyle contest, which I feel was largely judged by the community's opinion of the artwork, and not the actual hairstyle designs.

And that point to win the DPS and Healer design contest. All you have to do is to remember to take a design that looks like its in the game already (not interesting, fun designs like the others were. Oh no no no), use it as a base and design your artwork off of that.. You'll win *sigh* It doesn't matter now Gratz to the winning and all (pretty sure 50-60% of the player base will glam over it anyway so it doesn't even matter lol)

That's probably the worst thing about this pick. If they have more design contests, I get the feeling we're going to see most entries going the safe, easy route and creating gear that looks like stuff we already have in the game. I'm sure we'll still get crazy outliers, but I'm expecting a lot more generic entries for the next contest now that people know that's what gets you the win.

Bah, they give the players the option to draw a armour that is not similiar to what we have and then they pick the armour that looks very similiar to something we already have. Happy for the winner that his entry was picked, but wish they picked something else. As many said, this feels like they picked it so they can design it fast, since it looks very similiar to current Allagan armour, hence less time spend with making this item.

Guess I know what I need to do with the DPS and Healer contest, grab something that is in the game and design a similiar outfit, should increase my chances to win by 150%

How is this the best outfit!?!? it looks just like just like a piece of alligan gear.. Lets take the to one that will be the easiest to make, less time to do it, and hell we can probably take a piece of alligan gear already in the game and (possibly) reskin it.. Don't get me wrong the artwork is impressive & congratz to the winner and all, but my god.. it's like tanks are not allowed to wear gear that's both functional and fashionable like the other choices. Even the glamour system kinda kills this as people are glaming things not really functional (but video game logic gives the finger to this lol xD) And ture I my not understand what goes into making this stuff but damn, I can't but feel that Talented artist on there team are being under utilized & there was this air of laziness in this choice. And if they REALLY wanted something tanky, the final runner up at the bottom is as tanky as it gets

BUT PEOPLE THE SIMILARITIES ARE NORMAL, IT'S INTENDED TO BE ALLAGAN GEAR

I'd like to point out the didn't say that the designs had to look practical for tanking.

Dang phone submitted on its own before I could complete.

"When you envision the perfect tank, do you see a hulking fortress of metal and chain? Or do you value style more and prefer aesthetics over function?" Also reading further down in the requirements, nowhere does it say the design has to look practical for tanking, nor do they have to fit with any lore. If they wanted designs similar to what they already have, they should have stayed so, instead of giving people the option to draw more "pretty" designs. There isn't even a theme outside of "design what gear you'd like to see implemented to ffxiv". So the whole "those other designs don't go with any lore or don't look like something a tank would wear" is invalid, since there were no rules stating they had to look a certain way. Just that they had to be able to be worn by every race and gender.

Congrats to the winner and its was one of my top 5 that I would like to see win. The other two choices by Berurur Beru and OnionHolic, I hope would be seen again in some sort of fashion. We need more "Hunter" style armor. Especially OnionsHolic since the lore is perfect for the Dravanian Forelands hunters and the area they reside in.

Well, none of my favorites were selected even as runner ups. I can understand their reasoning though, I'm glad we got little blurbs of explanation for each of the entries. The winner is a little more generic than I would have liked but it's not bad. If the finalists that weren't included weren't tanky enough, there's a few of them that I'd love to see implemented with no class restrictions.
