The winning design isn't "boring." It's actually quite detailed and if some elements are "borrowed" from HA/Ironworks gear then I don't see a problem with that. I liked a lot of the entries, but the winning one actually fits the game. This is also going to be popular with the player base at large, whereas a lot of the other entries are more "niche" oriented.

Most of the runner ups are much more exciting than the winner. I'm really disappointed the Void armor didn't win, that is my favorite.

They said it was boring, but seriously, can they come up with something better than the winning entry? Criticism is all fine and dandy if it has substance, but literally just saying "It's boring.", like at least provide some backbone...

Just because someone says it's boring doesn't mean they actually have the artistic talent to create something else. It's perfectly ok to think the winner was boring compared to the other entrants, without actually having to create my own design to "back it up."

I don't think it's fair for an individual to judge a piece when they aren't in the position to judge it, that's why we had this one judged by the devs and I'm thankful for that. Had this been judged by players, probably some impractical Gobbuue armor or single-thread armor would have won, knowing how impractical this player based is. SE is only looking out for what the fans want. How this 180 on the Allagan Luminous Surcoat happened, baffles me, which is why I am asking... have you created anything better? Has it been judged and won the competition? No? Didn't think so.
♥ Baby, tell me, what's your motive? ♥

				Your gonna stand by that...really?
Too bad I'm not around to point out the moment you decide that you didn't like __________ to point out your invalidity of your inane perception on criticism.

The thing is, I'm not relying on just having a winning entry, my issue is is that the person just said "plate armor is boring", and had nothing to back it up. I'm not saying make a winning entry (although that would be best). I'm saying explain your reasoning. If you were doing a review of a dungeon or in game content, you don't glance at it and say "It's boring because the color blue is there" do you? :>

(before I continue,, I must say that I wanted the allagan surcoat to win and utterly loath the idea of gag armor like the Gobbule one being role locked)I don't think it's fair for an individual to judge a piece when they aren't in the position to judge it, that's why we had this one judged by the devs and I'm thankful for that. Had this been judged by players, probably some impractical Gobbuue armor or single-thread armor would have won, knowing how impractical this player based is. I'd think its more due to jealousy (Why didn't my favorite design win? its totally more original than this hunk of junk!) or disappointment of a larger problem players have with this game that this might be a symptom of...an affinity of playing it safe.
Consider this, Heavenward, as an expansion, inherently brings the promise of innovation. And I'd like to think they divered on this aspect in certain area, but the more things change, the more they say the same, is in play here. We still got the Gear treadmill left un-changed. Still get the usual itemization problems, The Anima playing out a remixed version of the Zodiac quests and some of the innovations were more to bring them in line with their counterparts (namely BRD/MCH and the concept of Scrips). Plus their initial additions of content, Lord of Vermillion and the Diadem, were massive flops, and well, you know what they say about first impressions.
Overall, after ARR pulled massive changes from 1.0 in a desperate and successful bid to save the game, the brand, and the company, Heavensward seems to playing it safe and taking an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach towards most existing 2.0-type content
This might had affect how even the non-mechanical areas of development, including items appearance, and as such while the Allagan Surcoat fits the game, fans might had had a problem because it is as similar to other armors than Gubal Hard and Xelphatol will be to Sohr Khai and Hull Breaker Hard
That said I'm gonna assume Occam's razor is in play and say it more likely that Jeasousy that their favored entry didn;t win is the most likely factor
