    New alphabet? [U'Ghamaro Mines map]

Greetings, voidsents of the LOC team!

As an explorer, I know how to read Eorzean writings, so I immediately noticed that there're letters I'm not familiar with in the U'Ghamaro Mines stronghold's map.

    Dome ...

    Video for details

There's also another “Dome ...” above the center of the map.

What are those letters/symbols next to Dome? On the northwest it seems like “Dome Flea”, but those are not Eorzean letters.

    -------
Also, I noticed the area called “Lucubrium”, a new term to me. I did some research and found this dictionary (other adventurers may be interested, so here's the link) that explains the word and many other particular ones. Just wanted to say that I like to read and learn more of the “named” places on the maps. Hopefully in the New Eorzea *cough*Library*cough* some of those places' backstory, like the Gelmorra Ruins or Amberscale Rock, will be explained. Oops, my bad for the digression.
    -------

Well, if it's not something explained in the quests (I've yet to do anything related to the strongholds), but if it's something new (Kobold alphabet?), then if you can please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Cloudio Onizuka, named places-interested adventurer

P.S.: As the matter of discussion centers around alphabet, I've always been wondering about that word on many posters in the city-states, “Aduyses”, so I did some research now, but can't find a direct link that explains it thoroughly.
According to my gathered informations here and there, it's an obsolete form of “Advises”. The LOC team/other adventurers confirm this? Hmmm, I wonder the historical period it dates from...

Those are numbers. As I mention at the bottom of this thread, these can be seen by looking at the signs in the market wards.

The number system is broken up into sets of 3. 1, 2, and 3 look similar, with another tail added with each number. 4, 5, 6 are equally similar, with 6 being a backwards 4, and 5 being something in-between. 7, 8, and 9 equally add another tail each time. And 0 stands alone.

The southern dome is dome #2610, the northern dome is dome #2605

EDIT: Had to double check the southern dome, the actual map part of the map interfered with the top half of the first number.

    Greetings Onizuka!

Regarding the map issue, Urthdigger's response is spot on. Those characters to the right of "Dome" are numbers.

As for the second question about the term "aduyces," your deduction is correct. This is an old form of "advices," meaning "information given" "news" "notice." Actually, you'll find that in a lot of the writing that appears in Eorzea uses obsolete or archaic spellings. This, ultimately, can be looked at as a barometer gauging the realm's level of literacy. A lack of standard spellings was actually quite common back in the early stages of the English language as well, when only a small portion of the population could read or write.

This isn't to say that Eorzea's masses are completely uneducated (it is obvious that there is some level of literacy amongst the people, as there are newspapers, flyers, signs, etc.) but it can be deduced that literacy levels are nowhere near those you'll see on modern-day Earth.

    I hope that helps!
