What exactly is Gilgamesh? (minor spoilers)

WHAT is he? Are there more like him?

Where does he come from?

Could there be a relation between him (race) and Sephirot?

I know nobody has these answers, since there is virtually no info about this, but I'm hoping some of you guys have some insights or thoughts, or maybe I'm just incredibly dense >___>

He is a Character from Final Fantasy V. Krile is also a character form that same game, but XIV's incarnation form her is a tad different from V's

Again, V. He came here from the Void like he does in other FF Titles. Type-0 is implied to be his origin

As he is from V/Type-0, while the Fiend is a concept from VI that was dipped into for XIV, I'm gonna say no.

The running belief is that he is a dimensional traveler from Type-0, and his appearances in other titles are somewhat out of chronological order. The Gilgamesh in FF14 is the middle in this timeline, I would guess, because in other appearances he already has Enkidu at his side.

Gilgamesh is heavily implied in every FF he appears in to be the very same Gilgamesh from FFV (and now his origin point seems to be Type-0). He's a reluctant interdimensional traveler that got sucked into the void and is trying to find both his way back home (FFVIII implies he wants to duel Bartz again, Dissidia outright spells it out) and worthy fighters so he can steal their weapons (except he always loses so his weapons are always REPLICAS of those used by those fighters, see his model for FFXII for more details).

Gilgamesh being exclusive to the Hildibrand questline should be code for "don't look too much into it".

I take whatever was stated about his origin in Type-0 with a grain of salt though, seeing as Type-0 was a Fabula Nova Crystallis game (which was a failed attempt by Messrs' Nomura, Kitase, Nojima and Toriyama to reboot the FF mythology and create their own standardized FF 'bible' of their own ideas and concepts to work from, which flopped and has since been effectively abandoned), and a spin-off game to boot (in other words, it was not part of the main FF series), thus making his supposed 'origin' in Type-0 a retcon at most.

Given the fact that his appearances in FFIX and XI have very little to nothing in common with his 'normal' appearance (in FFIX he was a six-armed thief who kept blundering around but other than the six arms and revealing his name right at the end of the game as Gilgamesh, he seems to not actually be the 'real' Gilgamesh, and in FFXI, he's just a regular hume pirate who runs the pirate haven of Norg and is the Job NPC for the SAM job - he even speaks in mock pirate lingo of 'arr' and 'me harties', meaning he is just a normal human who happens to have Gilgamesh's name), it's likely this is the case with Type-0 as well. But anyway.

Chronologically Gilgamesh first appeared in FFV as one of X-Death's henchmen, only to be betrayed by X-Death and tried switching sides, only to be cast into the Dimensional Rift/Void by X-Death, where he was trapped for an indeterminate amount of time, until he was inadvertently freed in FFVIII, and then became something of a reoccurring character, showing up in multiple FF games after that date (often as an optional boss, sometimes as a summon), as WhiteArchmage stated. This page goes into Gil's history, etymology and all the FF titles he has appeared in.

Enkidoh, do you have any sources on that info in regards to the Crystallis series? I had thought it was an attempt to go out the gate doing what had, at the time, just been done with FFVII's expanded universe, with FFXIII and VersesXIII as the starting points.

I'm genuinely interested in reading anything on that as I did enjoy XIII for what it was, but always thought it fell short of previous FF games.

On the subject of Gil, he opens up to the fact he and Enkidoh had been recently separated. Chicken-Enkidoh was him trying to cope with the loss, so it's more likely a later point in his timeline we meet him.
