WARNING! OPINIONS AHEAD!
As this event comes to an end I feel like something was not right about this summer event.
The summer events were my favourite events ever since FFXI and I always look forward to them every year...but this year it felt kind of empty.
Here are a few things I feel were just not done right, needs improvements, or just wasn't fun...
The Theme
Now I know power rangers and they are cool, the poses are cool, and the armor is a nice change from typical revealing swimsuits so I like the rewards...BUT to me power rangers and summer doesn't really feel connected. I feel like the power rangers event theme could have been used somewhere else since power rangers doesn't really feel summery.
There are quite a few themes that could be used to make a more summer-time type event like I don't know a beach volley ball mini-game, something related to ocean life like learning more about different kinds of fish that live in the oceans of Eorzea, Treasure hunting under the beach sand with item detectors, Pirates, Camping, Festivals with mini-game booths and prizes, gold fish scooping mini-game like they had in FFXI maybe. I can think of quite a lot of summery feeling events that fit better than power rangers those are just a few examples.
The Quests
They were...too simple. Something a bit more involved would be more entertaining but since the theme to me was off there isn't much to say about these since they are all pretty much about power rangers. The last quest had a pretty bad problem when the event first launched where everyone would kill the bombs so you couldn't capture them. There just wasn't enough bombs for everyone and some people probably trolling. Another thread already mentioned this though.
The FATEs
They were also too simple, but also hard to complete when there were a lot of people due to how simple it was (one shotable bombs, no matter how much it scaled, make it hard to get credit) and the bombs spawned in the same spots so you had people camping the spot instead of actually moving around. Also being mounted the bombs could actually heavy you by hitting you if the first FATE is scaled and they need two water volleys to die; that is kind of lame.
FATEs are a staple of this game and I understand that, but we need more events that don't rely on FATEs all the time. Some new ideas like mini-games or quests with clues you have to decipher to find hidden treasure on the beach that pirates left..I mean I can think of quite a few ideas. The Make it Rain murder mystery was awesome for example.
Another huge problem is that the FATE location used overlaps a 30 minute FATE called "It's Not Lupus" which no one completes anymore and is difficult to solo. Was this just a oversight? Because it was a pretty bad mistake in my opinion. That 30 minute FATE would spawn and then you cannot even participate in the event FATEs since they overlap so you are stuck trying to solo the Cancer boss crab or waiting 30 minutes just to do the event.
The Rewards
These rewards were good, but they don't feel summery either. I like them but they could have been introduced with the power ranger event as a 'non-seasonal' event since power rangers doesn't really fit any seasonal theme in my opinion.
Obviously SE you were kind of swamped with events right now so I get that you guys might not have had time to put much into the Moonfire Faire. You had Youkai Watch, Moonfire Faire, and soon the anniversary event all in the month of August, but this is just a bit of feedback from a long time player. Just hoping next year's summer event is more summery themed and more engaging quests and mini-games in events in general.
The events need to be fun not just a mindless chore.
