    Past Seasonal Events and Achievements

Currently, as new events replace old ones with each passing year, the old content (quests/achievements/items) become unavailable. Occasionally, the items find their way onto the Mogstation. That is all well and good, and I'm glad there's an opportunity to still get many of the old items that way, but here's a though on a way to take that one step further with not just the items, but the events themselves.

What if, through the Mogstation, players were able to purchase tickets that allow them to participate in the old events at the same time as their new counterparts through multiple instances of the zones in which they are found. For instance, during the 2016 Moonfire Faire, you could go to Costa del Sol and speak to an NPC, redeem the ticket as a quest item, and relive it via zone instancing. Players would be allowed to get items/achievements on their own, see the fun content the devs worked hard to make, and still make the same profit to boot. Win/win?

    Thoughts?

Although I can understand it would help those who missed out the first time, it would cheapen the whole idea of even having a 'once only' event in the first place. The whole thrill of participating in something that is only short-term and won't be repeated - after all, this was the main draw to keep players playing 1.0 while ARR was in development, stating that the original game was going to end and that as a part of it they would run a whole series of never-to-be-repeated events that offered exclusive items and rewards, most of which are now completely unattainable. The seasonal events are completely the same.

No, I am sorry but I have to disagree with this - re-offering the rewards for purchase is one thing, but offering the very events and their achievements is a completely different barrel of moogles. What's the point of even bothering with the event during it's 'proper' run then when you can just buy the event afterwards? This just completely destroys the value of short-term, never to come back events and their exclusive achievements.

Remember, this is just a fact of life - there will always be times when something will be only available for a limited time and if you miss out it's gone for good. All you can do is make sure you 'get it while it's hot!'

Thanks for the response Enkidoh. While I've heard this argument before as a response, and similar ones about the feeling of distinction with limited time only items, I have to add that while there are many facts of life that apply to us in reality, a game is an escape from that sort of truism.

I get where you're coming from regarding the point of running things during their proper time, but keep in mind that paying for something that was once free is not a wholly favorable option. There is plenty of reason to still do things while they can be done.

I do appreciate the considerate nature of your opinion however!

I'm going to add to the above explanation on how it would cheapen the value of the event content, and say that it would also set a precedent for the sales of gameplay content in general. They typically sell old event items as is, but they've been known to slip in things that could never be obtained in-game through any means. I'm fine with how the cash shop is currently (though I think the mount prices are starting to get kind of ridiculous) but what's to say that if the sales of old event content is successful, they won't take that a bit further and see how a cash shop exclusive special event would sell. This could eventually lead to non-event content being marketed rather than added straight into the game, which is something that I would take issue with as far as my enjoyment of the game.

That would certainly be a worst-case scenario. I pay a subscription to this game with the expectation that patches and other essential content are part of the price I pay each month after the initial cost. I have to belief that there would continue to be balance in that regard, as never have we seen anything sold in the online store going beyond the realm of cosmetics.
