Did the OP suggest jumping Fatique? O...M....12 really?
oh and getting to higher ground to have more damage as an archer doesn't help when you want to attack it just says "<mob> is to far below/above you"

I don't see this as a 'whim', so much as long standing demands and suggested solutions to current dilemas.I'm not keen on the whole idea but i'll put up with it.
I am slightly more concerned with the way the devs seem to be pandering to every whimsical idea of the players. male miqote? there you go. Jumping? there you go. Riding on dragons? there you go. Sometimes devs need to go with their own vision for a game and say no. Give us something unique and final fantasy.
Yes we should be consulted. Yes our feedback should be carefully evaluated. But we aren't the pro's, the devs are. It's they who will be judged on the game so they should make it their game.
Male Mi'quote has been a request since 'Male Mithra' requests back when the game was made.
However, in FFXI, there was an actual reason, in the game's world, to say "Oh hey, this race's males are rare." Carrying it over to FFXIV... that would be kinda strange. Yoshi found the call for equaling out the races and genders to be fair game. Not on a whim, but on long standing requests.
Jump, too, was also a long standing request since FFXI, because some of the pathing in the game is pretty silly. (literally less than a foot rise prevented movement). It's also been an intigrated feature in almost every modern MMO come out, or coming out.
Wyvern mounts was my idea mostly, as a way of meeting the demands of both Wyvern camps. The Monster mounts? That was SE's idea, honestly.
I want to this game to feel less rigid. I'm talking about jumps, swims, charging moves, evades.....etc.
So, enough of your "brilliant" suggestions.

Personally I really dont think we need jump at all.
SE will add this if you like or not. I met options on the internet in the style :
"WTF there is no jumping in that game ? I wont play until they add it."
Think about the mind of these players.
/jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump /jump ..space bar..space bar.. space bar.. space bar..
You mad yet??
Thread title:I have no problem with jumping, I thought the higher quality animations of 14 make it look less gimmicky then wow and I can see how it adds another level of dimension to the game, the lalafell animations look a little silly but i think they're running speed has always looked strange to me so i can't say i'm surprised nor really care all that much as i choose not to be a lalafel.
I know they're are a lot of threads on jumping but i think we can all agree that looking out into a field of players constantly hopping around looks silly. I never got into WoW but whenever i watched my friends play it seemed like they would hit the spacebar almost like a nervous tick whenever they were walking any distance longer then 10 seconds or a wait that took more then a minute.
My solution here is simple and to suggest some kind of minor delay when the player hits the ground so that it hurts on running speed efficiency. I'm talking about something so small that if a player were to jump 30 times in a row while running they would only arrive at their destination 25% later. I think that would be more then enough to stop 90% of players from jumping around town nervously.
I also believe when jumping offers no distance/hour penalty minor obstacles like fences or ledges offer no further immersion then the ghost fences and ledges we currently have in game now. Jumping should make me feel like i'm manipulating my characters position in space not an assumption that i constantly own all the space above my characters head with no real limitations.A properly timed jump over a fence is a lot more gratifying then passively spamming jump as my character approaches a fence.
While i think the modern day WoW player will undoubtedly be frustrated by this, I have a lot more faith in the mature audiences ability to respect realism and FFXIV's individuality, cause what we have now screams wow clone and a lack of imagination something that any new player will notice the minute they hit the largest key on their keyboards. I don't want to look out upon FFXIV's beautiful landscapes and notice the nervous twitches of an impatient player over the intricately designed gear that he potentially spent long hours trying to acquire.
Thanks for reading and even if you don't agree with me I at least hope I can inspire the community to continue to offer constructive criticism.
My only problem with jumping is that 99% of jumps will be done out of boredom.
First sentence (wow run-on):
I have no problem with jumping, I thought the higher quality animations of 14 make it look less gimmicky then wow and I can see how it adds another level of dimension to the game, the lalafell animations look a little silly but i think they're running speed has always looked strange to me so i can't say i'm surprised nor really care all that much as i choose not to be a lalafel.
See bolded.

While it's true that people will jump just for the hell of it (And hopefully without that cheesy Van Halen track in the background) I can still see a practical use for it - particularly for ease of backtracking in a dungeon. I know the Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak is a bad example in this case, but since it's the only one I've been in so far it's all I can think of.
Formerly Rounnin Tiankeris of Kashuan; reborn as Yongdi Washou of Hyperion.
May we continue to walk in the light of the crystal and restore Eorzea to its former glory.

there is no need to be so against jumping either.Feel free to blacklist/ignore people if they act dumb. That's what it's for. Eventually those people will realize that nobody likes them being silly all the time.We don't need jump, get it in your thick skulls SE.
You can implement jumping if it is NEEDED for example:
1. To solve platform puzzles.
2. To get onto higher ground to do more damage as archer.
3. To access hidden areas.
...
As long as this is not the case THERE IS NO NEED FOR JUMPING!
You also don't seem to realize that the areas in the game are being substantially redone. Since they are planning to add this feature you can be sure there will be times when it is functionally useable.
Too many MMOs have too many senseless needless rules just because someone whined/complained about something being silly/unfair/whatever. Anyone remember Ultima Online? You could do anything in that game in its early days. you could save the world and be a hero, or you could be a thief lurking in the woods to steal stuff from people who travel by. Anything went in the world of Britannia. These days, it's always "You can't do this" and "you can't do that."
Some concessions sometimes need to be made for gameplay purposes- but such concessions should not be overly frequent. Features should not be denied just because a few kids don't have the maturity level for an MMO in the first place.
