    My only problem with jumping is that 99% of jumps will be done out of boredom.

    I have no problem with jumping, I thought the higher quality animations of 14 make it look less gimmicky then wow and I can see how it adds another level of dimension to the game, the lalafell animations look a little silly but i think they're running speed has always looked strange to me so i can't say i'm surprised nor really care all that much as i choose not to be a lalafel.

    I know they're are a lot of threads on jumping but i think we can all agree that looking out into a field of players constantly hopping around looks silly. I never got into WoW but whenever i watched my friends play it seemed like they would hit the spacebar almost like a nervous tick whenever they were walking any distance longer then 10 seconds or a wait that took more then a minute.

    My solution here is simple and to suggest some kind of minor delay when the player hits the ground so that it hurts on running speed efficiency. I'm talking about something so small that if a player were to jump 30 times in a row while running they would only arrive at their destination 25% later. I think that would be more then enough to stop 90% of players from jumping around town nervously.

    I also believe when jumping offers no distance/hour penalty minor obstacles like fences or ledges offer no further immersion then the ghost fences and ledges we currently have in game now. Jumping should make me feel like i'm manipulating my characters position in space not an assumption that i constantly own all the space above my characters head with no real limitations.A properly timed jump over a fence is a lot more gratifying then passively spamming jump as my character approaches a fence.

    While i think the modern day WoW player will undoubtedly be frustrated by this, I have a lot more faith in the mature audiences ability to respect realism and FFXIV's individuality, cause what we have now screams wow clone and a lack of imagination something that any new player will notice the minute they hit the largest key on their keyboards. I don't want to look out upon FFXIV's beautiful landscapes and notice the nervous twitches of an impatient player over the intricately designed gear that he potentially spent long hours trying to acquire.

    We don't need jump, get it in your thick skulls SE.

    You can implement jumping if it is NEEDED for example:

    1. To solve platform puzzles.
    2. To get onto higher ground to do more damage as archer.
    3. To access hidden areas.
    ...

    As long as this is not the case THERE IS NO NEED FOR JUMPING!

    Is 20 dmg for the hit like 30 dmg if a RNG shoots?
    No DRG for party, camp spot site with 30 dmg, but is it for 20 like 30 dmg when you no hit be it for dd, for 30 dmg instead? or half is 10 for 20 dmg?
    How i mine for fish?

    i COULD be wrong but i could swear they said in one of their last statements that jump will play a role in the access of different areas such as desired ledges for zone advancing like you suggested but will have no effect on battle performance such as having a damage advantage by being higher up than the enemy.

    basically jump is being designed in mind for the the new zones, not the current ones.

    The purpose of this thread isn't to argue our opinions on whether or not we like the jumping system but to offer suggestions or opinions on what exactly makes jumping look so WoWish at the very least point out SE needs to be more original...

    I believe it if i see it. I will quit if i see people jump around in town. I just can't take it, it ruins my immersion and fun.

    @OP, it's not about looking WoW-ish. It has nothing to do with WoW, other MMO's had jumping. I don't know what you try to say, but i know that no matter how you make the animation look, it's still jumping.

    Restrict it to areas that you need to jump? Yes, why not, can always make characters automatically jump. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to jumping over a bottomless pit and falling down every time because the timing is off/there is lag.

    You see, the game has enough problems already, there is no need to introduce another problem right now. Jumping is gonna cause problems and more work and it's not needed in my opinion.

    You lost me when you started whining about World of Warcraft, and how this community is any more mature than WoW's. People will be jumping to annoy others, like they stand around afk with their Ifrit weapons unsheathed. I can't believe so many of you people are wasting energy whining about something this trivial, when there is a boat load of legitimate issues to tackle.

    Well i was also against that when they announced mounts or jumping. but i just accpeted it right now. and maybe thats a good start for FFXIV for becoming more different in comparison to Final Fantasy 11.
    FFXIV will become a new next gen Final Fantasy MMorpg.
    its the first time that they REALLY taking suggestions from the community into account. and they really do it. i think its great.

    and i think it will, with 2.0. .. now im really excited to looking forward to that new FF Online.
    its right jumping can be used too often and without any sense. on the other side its a step away from the "static" gameplay feeling. although its just in form of jumping

    i think all in all FFXIV 2.0. will feel more fluent like now (overworked server/client structure, new engine, new UI). we all know that FF14/FF11 is'nt about a fluent gameplay at all.

    Maybe its time for changes that radical.

    its in the notes on the main site, itd take you minute to find it but it is there. jump is being designed with the new zones in mind.
    also, your not gonna be playing any other MMO if that really does kill your immersion as every other MMO in existance has free will jump. it really is something youll just kinda have to get used to. just like how i cant stand the current magic cast system. i can either deal with it and hope it evolves for the better over time (like many things did in FFXI over the years i played) or i can move on.
    luckily for me i do not spam jump and but agrees it needs to be here.

    quite honestly im fine with free will jump but i believe it should be limited to walking up to a ledge or designated spot which would then activate the ability to jump up or down it.

    Thanks, i am looking forward to it then. If it serves a purpose i am fine with it.

    Quite right, I am not playing any other MMO that has jumping for that reason. Currently playing FFXI and EvE.

    when talking about the damage the game did to the franchise they said they really need to take a step back, look at what needs to change and use actual player feedback. they admitted theyve never really done this before (which i was baffled by when i read that).
    they said for the first time ever they brought in average gamers off the street and test out some things they are working on and documented all of the feedback.

    this community needs to know that SE has a lot of good ideas, but even more outdated ones which they fully admit to. this series is gonna change drastically within the next few games. FFXIV 2.0 is the start of that.
