    Strafing and Monks

I really want to use Q and E for keys for other skills but in order to do that, I have to remove right/left strafe from each.

How much does strafing impact AA on monks and their positioning? Will I be okay if I just use A and D to move towards my positions? Will that lower my AA damage?

If you don't use target lock, using A and D will stop your AA during the time you move. I usually suggest using Legacy control scheme and learning to use target lock reflexively and dynamically depending on the situation. When dealing with AoEs, one needs to decide if strafing to the side while keeping the lock will be enough to get out or if you should quickly unlock and run away, again taking a hit to your AA output.

Not sure if I follow, but you could unbind turn from AD, and put strafe there instead. That's what most people do, that way you can use QE for skills, and you can still strafe with AD.

Can still use the mouse to turn/change facing if needed, it just prevents you from 'keyboard turning' which is a bad habit.

You technically don't need to target lock either. If you hold strafe while shifting the mouse and you can circle strafe which is basically the same - but gives you more control over trajectory. I would never unbind strafe for this reason, as it's a key element of movement.

I'm a keyboard only player. So i control my camera with numpad 2486. I put strafe key to numpad 7 and 9. You can also use target lock which is numpad 5 anyway

Holding down right mouse button will cause A and D to strafe if bound to regular turning, that way you can bind Q and E to something else while still being able to strafe and turn.

Why not just bind A and D to strafe to begin with and use right click to turn?

I don't understand the need for keyboard turning at all tbh but I guess it's personal preference

When I'm too lazy to play with two hands or when on laptop it's easier to move with regular turning, you're going to have right click down anyways to rotate your character so might as well use the directional keys to turn when you're not in combat.

I personally take it to a further step and also unbind walking backwards. I walk foreward with E, and strafe with W and R. Makes it easier to have more buttons around those three keys for my skills (~ till 6 above, QASDFG + YH around, XCVB for less frequently used ones below). If I need to get out of an AoE by walking to the direction in my back, I turn my cam a bit in reflex and strafe sidewards out. Never had any problem with it at all.

I started using it after reading Taugrim's keybinding and strafing guide. If interested what he has to say, and what he says makes a lot of sense, head to https://taugrim.com/2011/04/07/guide...d-keybindings/

If comfortable using modifier keys, you should have plenty to work with even if leaving Q and E as is. Heck, you can even change out Caps lock to a Function or Alt key, etc., so it feels like you have a second shift.

Otherwise, if you don't use modifier keys much at all, you can get used to using Lock-on, with or without Legacy settings, or bind Shift-A and Shift-D to regular turning functions for when lazy and out of combat.
