    Can FFXIV have "Skills"

    Skills as in...

    Great Axe/Axe
    Sword/Dagger
    Bow
    Gun
    Staff
    Wand
    Evasion
    Parry
    Counter

    and so on..

these skills would cap at your currect level.

Killing enemies at your currect or higher then your max level depending if your near skill cap or not.

Weapon Skills would raise your attack/Acc.

Others such as Evasion/Parry would be active more often.

Magic would increass the landing and damage of the spell.

Question is why cant FFXIV have this...?

I wouldn't mind it, since the only downside to it is the people who get powerleveled would be insanely gimped (so system working as intended.)

It just gets overwhelming when one class/job has like 7 types of skills to keep leveled lol, I think the main reason is the weapon is the class, whereas in FFII/Romancing Saga(s) and XI it was more tied to the character.

Your skill with a sword = your level as a Gladiator, and so on. Class is tied to weapon, so level is directly linked to weapon proficiency.

Yeah, it is linked with level at this point. However, I don't necessarily like the system. Only being able to use one weapon really seems to limit the game in a variety of ways. Every new class that is added will have to have its own weapon, I imagine we'd run out of weapons before ideas for classes. Also, being able to use different interesting weapons on the same job (such as polearm on samurai from ffxi) were some of the most fun I had with the battle system.

I would prefer doing away with the current system and replacing it with the skill gain system the OP mentioned and allowing classes to use different weapons. It may be too late at this point, but 2.0 will see some pretty radical changes (redoing the zones).

This is how you used to level up in this game. I was fine with it as CNJ. Melees will have your head. I like this current system. It provides a fluidity and customization of your character as was utterly impossible in FFXI. And you see your actual progress on your skills, because it's the same as your level.

skills in FFXI were alright in my opinion. i just felt they leveled up waaay too slow. WoW has the exact same type of skills but they level up almost immediately. i didnt understand why they had skills if you can max them out in a couple of hours regardless of your level.

perhaps a simpler medium would work well in this game.

I would like to see a Dual Wield feature in FFXIV. Can have Sword in 1 hand and Gun in another. Main hand would weapon of your class your using.

"Dual Wield" Be more of a Class Job Trait which you can equip to any 1handed class. Which means LNC,MRD,ARC, and CON/THM that use 2 handed weapons would have limitations.

Be kinda nice if MRD got a Small Axe

Also speaking of 2nd versions of Weapons what if Jobs were limited to what weapon they had in there hand to use Abilities. Some Abilities need 2handed weapons and some need 1handed.

    Small Axe 1handed = lv20 Tripple Chop
    lv40 Blazing Swing
lv50 Deflect Damage, 10% DMG returns back to Enemy.

they said they are adding a slew of dual wield and two handed options. they also said they are reworking all abilities are going to make more them job exclusive.
this all tells me that there will be abilities that are exclusive to dual or single wield and so forth.
