More things that are fun to grind. PotD was a step in the right direction. Also I like that there are Alliance restricted PVP, and don't want it removed, but I would like to see non-alliance versions of the current non-wolf's den PVP. No need to take away, just add so we have options,

    1V1 PVP.... OPEN WORLD CHALLENGE + FIGHT + ILV/LV SYNC = AMAZING!!!!

I could write an essay on what I feel is missing. Instead I'm just gonna say, perfect balance is not needed, and in most cases detrimental. This is just one point.

Hey don't want to expand stars cuz balance.

Don't want to introduce hybrid jobs cuz balance.

Imagine if a fighting game tried the same route and tried to get perfect balance. It's be boring as hell because a perfect fighting game has only 1 character.

There are many, many....many....things the game is lacking or hasn't improved upon. But feasible for 4.0?

    More Job Identity.

I'll use my main as one example of this: NIN has special run / jump animations. Nin has passive movement speed & takes less fall damage. NIN can sometimes sneak past mobs ( or players in PvP ) with "hide" . It'd be neat to see more flavor added to other classes as well come 4.0 in the form of traits or other passive skills.

This would be my biggest also, but at the same time there's good that comes from it. If you leave you can always come back and catch right up. Still, that's the one upside to the downsides of it because there's nothing great about getting a Primal EX weapon when you have 3 or so other ways to obtain something of equal power. Or if you get bored and come back after a few months, some of those weapons are easier to get. Maybe not top tier but if someone came back now and had an ilv200 weapon, they could just do PoTD rather than NidEX. Sure one has parry but if you aren't taking top tier and trying to go down the "BiS" route, you won't see much of a difference while you're doing dungeons.

Those who took Niddy head on should feel good they won with an axe that has something great to it rather than looking awesome. Someone had a great idea with ability slots on armor and spirit bonding them from special gear. That would do wonders and let horizontal progression come in a bit. You have something like Maim : Enhanced Enmity on 2.0 relic. Use it and unlock the ability, then place it on an item for 3.0 if you have Enmity issues. That's basic stuff..make durations longer / stronger. Put some basic enhancements on some gear but make the endgame stuff give some decent things. That would make you want to do these savage or ex runs. Or it could be a horrible idea in a way I don't see.

This pretty much mirrors my feelings on balance vs diversity.

    1. I wish ARR nodes would adopt the HW nodes style and pop twice an hour.
    2. Workshop crafting to require less AFKers.

I'm sure there are more, but I'm currently getting ready to outfit 3 airships to end-game tier and these are my biggest challenges.

A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

I think the actual thing missing from the game is content. At the beginning of 3.0 a decision was made to lower the number of dungeons (instances) to include some form of new gameplay. This seemed like a welcomed idea, but sadly, those ideas are now just dead content. Things like Diadem, Lords of Vermillion (most of Gold saucer honestly), PVP and soon to be PotD. This is mostly dead content that was installed in place of the 'normal' patch content. So when 1/4 to 1/3 of a patch dies rather quickly, patch after patch, it adds up and makes the game feel even more lacking.
TL : DR Due to SE trying new content that died, each patch has less actual content, so game feels like it is lacking quite a bit.

The focus for much of the expansion has the been the 'failure' of new content such as Diadem. But what one hears less about is how 'old' content, areas, and features have been left floating facedown in the FFXIV content stream.

Clearly 2 expert dungeons, a 24-man raid, and 4 NM / Savage Raid instances aren't going to keep people engaged beyond the time it takes to gear up. The existence of "catch-up" patches means for regularly subbed players long stretches of cheerless tome-chores through content they're more than familiar with, with no variance or variety.

The realistic solution is perhaps not to demand 'new' content more frequently, but to continue to add to the foundation they've already laid. For example, things like Hunts ( and hunting log, guildhests, GCs, FCs, etc )

Hunts, as a system, are basically unchanged since implementation. The set conditions have been discovered for spawns and there are spawn timers. The hunt marks only get weaker with each player gear upgrade, but they never change themselves. What if additional conditions and possible spawns were added to this system to encourage players to venture out into the open world again?

Besides adding entirely new spawns to areas and cycling through them, SE could implement a system where, under certain conditions, hunt marks could change into AA-ranks ( working title ) where their color changes along with some of their attack patterns. The reward for these special marks would be an increased tome / seal payout and ( perhaps ) a crafting / glamour / mat drop of some sort.

Under this system, you could still have normal A / B rank spawns, but also have special conditions for these other varieties such as specific FATEs / weather / moon cycles, some sort of world interaction.

I think it'd be feasible to implement using the system they've already set up. The idea would be to add a less predictable element to hunts so that, come relic time, you wouldn't be always be hunting the exact same things you were 1-2 years ago.

Note that this would not be "this is all we're adding in this patch - please enjoy for the next three months!" content. This would be content alongside whatever major patch content they were releasing. The idea would be to revive 'older' content without sacrificing too much development time with entirely new additions to the game.
