/show names - OFF, ON, or OTHERS ONLY

Would it be possible to make it so we have THREE options (instead of the current two) when it comes to displaying names?

• DISPLAY ALL NAMES
• DISPLAY NO NAMES
• DISPLAY OTHERS' NAMES (new)

I hate seeing my name in the middle of the screen all day long, and I equally hate not being able to see the names of other players, or the aggro status of monsters. This has led me to constantly switch between displaying and hiding names when all I really want is the ability to hide my own name from my view.

Would anybody else like to see this feature?

Yup, and maybe only player's name or friendly NPC or everyone except engaged enemies.

EDIT: and ONLY names, not the quest icons, etc.

Sure, perhaps it's intended with the release of the new UI in 2.0, but that's also not to be live until early 2013 according to the development roadmap.

What I'm asking for is something in 1.21 (or sooner?) so I don't have to suffer through another year of a white bright name obtrusively hindering my visual gaming experience.

I learnt to play with names off. It's way more hardcore haha.

Although I'm probably a liability to grinding parties since sometimes I end up attacking the wrong mob and then linking a whole bunch of things.

They should make /names off mandatory, imo.

How do you find quest NPCs? Just click on them all until the correct name shows up?

Well, the exclamation points show up on your map.

But I guess there are times when it does become a necessity to toggle the names back on.

How about a 4th option?

DISPLAY ALL NAMES

my addition --> DISPLAY MOB NAMES ONLY (new)

EDIT: Same with HP bars etc.. It would be nice if I could turn those on and only have them active for mobs, that way when I'm in a city I don't see every PCs info.

Yeah, I really, REALLY wish you could at the very least turn off your own name. It would also be nice, as Mishakai said, if we could turn off player names but keep mob/NPC names.
