Introduce Final Fantasy Famous Characters as NPCs

    Dear all,

Me and my friends were thinking of what would make Final Fanasy XIV, the best MMO. Based on all the things that are considered being introduced in version 2.0 like the Crystal Tower from FFIII, the Magiteks from FFIV and the Golden Saucer from FFVII. We really liked those ideas so We wanted the famous characters from all Final Fantasy Series as NPCs in game with FFXIV style and armor. They could be introduced as story lines of each expansion where we have to go with Cloud in the northern crater as a raid to beat down Sephiroth for example. It could be the secondary characters like Quistis from FFVIII taking us to Ifrit.

We understand that the game designers want to make a new original story and we do appreciate it but me and my friends would go crazy just to relive with all of the previous Final Fantay worlds in a single MMO.

I hope this works out so, yeah.

I like this but just not yet, because it would make it too cliche. Putting old skool FF people is like jumping the shark. However, putting old skool areas is a fantastic idea, IMO. Gulug Volcano, the Ice Cave, etc. Make raid dungeons out of them. If I went for putting people in, I would put hints like a wanted poster for Squall somewhere or his gunblade stuck in a rock at the end of a raid dungeon based on FFVIII, something little. That's the most I would go.

although it is a good idea. i can't see it happening. the problem i think is. in final fantasy (numbers) they love to recycle things from games that came before. i.e. chococbos, moogles, summons, secret forests, and so on. but they never recycle characters except for a few, that for some strange reason have been used in multiple numbered games. cid, gilgamesh, brigg's and wedge (maybe others that i can't think of). my guess is there is a reason these characters have been given more than one outing, and all others havn't and won't be seen in FF14

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

    This is a joke, right?

I mean, I wouldn't mind clever in-jokey references to previous games in NPC dialogue or item descriptions, FFXI's writers have been being cute about those for years.

It's not -literally- the Golden Saucer, or the Crystal Tower, or whatever - just areas inspired by the areas from earlier games, thematically and aesthetically. Just like it's not -literally- the same Cid, for example, in every FF game. (It might be literally the same Gilgamesh, but that's venturing into fanwank territory.)

Eorzea isn't the Cleft of Dimensions, I'm afraid to say. It's its own game, with its own lore, and its own characters. The FF games are linked together by thematic elements, by imagery, by repeated motifs - if you want to play a fun, fanservicey crossover FF game, I've heard there's a nice PSP fighting game you may want to take a look at.

i don't think it is the same cid in all the different games. but i do think the name pop's up on so many different major characters, that there must be some reason SE uses it over and over

R... right... and they used the name "Cid" in FFXIV, too, it's one of those repeated themes and motifs I talked about. (He's usually involved with technology somehow, he's usually fairly closely tied to the plot, etc. He's always an important NPC!)

You know about, like, chocobos and moogles too, right?
