Have you beaten Ifrit with nobody having sentinel in your party?

With the upcoming class reform, it seems that sentinel will be a class/job exclusive ability/trait that won't be readily available to other class/job.

I wonder how is it possible to ever win the Ifrit fight without this wonderful ability. Has anyone who beat Ifrit with nobody in the party or just the tank having the sentinel ability?

From all the personal experiences, guides and video clips available, I have yet to seen anybody beating Ifrit without Sentinel. Have you? If you have, would you share how?

The purpose of sentinel is to have less dps on the spikes for Hellfire, and more output on Ifrit himself, just making the fight shorter. You can compensate for no one having sentinel by dropping additional spikes during this phase. It'll likely extend your time in the instance, but won't require having the ability on macro.

I am sorry, for all the experiences I have, people usually drop one nail. Does that mean that when all nails are destroyed, hellfire won't do as much damage?

Pretty much. Each nail dropped reduces the damage from Hellfire. However, the current, commonly accepted, efficient solution is to drop one nail to reduce the damage to an acceptable level, then use sentinel to mitigate the rest.

Iv beat Ifrit without having sentinel. Pretty sure I was the only one that didn't have it, I lived as well. Though, I would agree, would like to see a group do it without sentinel, because it is possible. You just have to really self manage, and have good coordination with one another after hellfire.

Seriously? We've been going on the information that the damage gets reduced only with 1 nail down and doesn't get reduced further till you get all 4 down.......

From what I understand, killing two nails is only slightly better than killing just one.

Really, it wouldn't make sense. Killing one nail gives a damage reduction, killing the 2nd and 3rd don't, then killing the 4th does? Either each nail offers a slight reduction or only killing all four does.

Before my static members all got Sentinel what we did was drop two nails down. After two nails are down, DPS all stack on the mage on the left side. That mage will rebuff, stoneskin, cure hp to full. Once hellfire approaches everyone that can will use rampart/defender. Right as Hellfire is started, mages just cast curaga on themselves, what will happen is hellfire will hit and immediatly afterwards curaga will land.

Our static group still does that even with every member having sentinel. We survived, we beat Ifrit.

Those that say you have to have sentinel to beat Ifrit, have no idea how to think outside of the box.

thats only if things go as planned... eruption, vulcan, and incinerate really fcks things up if u wanna be pristine and ready for hellfire with everyone NOT having sentinel. Especially since ifrit isnt an instance where u can assign mages spells at a specific given time. Skill locks on rampart/defender kinda take your time away to move to mages.
Id slap the melee if they were anywhere close to me before hellfire. Last thing i want is a eruption near me while im doin last minute stuff.

(and yes i know about the cures DURING hellfire, i use it on the tank everytime. Whoevers done ifrit a billion times its common sense to them. But we are talking about every other pt member this time in the best position and at least half the mages kicking off a successful curega along with it, all the while dodging the aoe's and cracks and etc)

Anyone worth there salt, will know how to dodge Eruptions. The DPS stacking on top of one of the mages to survive hellfire sure beats the hell out of having half your party wipe because one person is scared of dying to an eruption.

Things never go as planned, it's called adapting. Some can do it, others will fail at it. The big thing is being open to trying different things, rather then going with a setup that others have done but might not be ideal for your setup.

The only excuse for getting hit by eruption is because you are new to the fight. Period.
