the plug and play charge cable does not make the controller a wired one afaik, the xbox 360 controllers didnt output control through the sub like the playstation controllers do. it simply charges the battery pack.

Yeah I just figured it out really late so far, it was a big part of my issue for this. I used a Wireless controller for so long on my 360 and didn't ever use a Wired besides on my PS2 and Gamecube, I completely ignored how the Wireless 360 controller works only because the cable gives it it's charge when the battery is low, it doesn't transmit data, the controller just stays Wireless and gets a wired charge. I went out and bought a new Wired, just had to recalibrate some of the button layouts and now it works perfectly!
