Free trial account on shared computer

How can I set up a free trial account on a computer that already has FFXIV installed?
If the teenager in question likes the game we will be purchasing a second copy of the game and they would like to be able to keep their characters from the trial.

how can this be accomplished?

I can't use the free trial installer since the game is already installed.

If it won't let you do the free trial, perhaps you could just create an alt for him to test the game with. Early leveling is fast so they could just recreate that char after purchase. You can delete the alt beforehand so they can use the same name

You need to either have them login to the computer as a different user (which you might want to consider anyway as they could then have their own settings/background/etc), but failing that just go into your "Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn" folder on the computer.

In that directory you'll find an ffxiv_boot.cfg file. Move that file out of the directory. Run the game again and it'll go through the startup wizard again so you can create the account. Once finished close the game back down and move the original file back in (overwriting the new file it created which is probably identical, but at least you know that one worked before!)
