On the side of nanamo ul namo

I'm in the middle of the story where Alphinaud is assembling his new administration. When you recruit in Ul'dah you get to see a little cutscene in which Nanamo cries and confides herself to the general in which she states that she as a form of royal blood (a sultana) needs to have a hand in the forming of this military grouping that alphinaud assembled. She really seems frustrated with them being funded by this Syndicate and not having a say in the matter. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_9onp9h74g)

My question is: What's up with this chick? the whole ff14 story at first seemed one-dimensional but it has turned quite complicated.

By "this chick" do you mean the Sultana herself? We're over a year and a half on from that specific CS you linked, so to avoid spoiling things but still being vague; "more is revealed!" and when you've completed the Heavensward story, there is a Tales from the Dragonsong War which delves a little deeper into Nanamo and the Syndicate's relationship, but I caution you to wait until you've completed at the very least 3.0's MSQ!

The Ul'dahn Revolution arc (2.x) is... well, pretty heavy with political intrigue. Before that yeah, it was basically "stop the Primals / Garleans."

The in-game resolution to the arc isn't until halfway through 3.0, so be patient and enjoy it.

If you start in Ul'dah, you learn quite a bit more about her and Ul'dah's government.

Essentially, she and Raubahn are slated against the rest of the ruling body, as members aside from the Sultanate are chosing by being the richest members of society. Unfortunately, this results in the highest class keeping the status quo while the lowest can't catch a break. Couple this with the idea in Ul'dah that you earn your keep and the downtrodden aren't willing to work (with some toxic Ala Mhigo verses Ul'dah nationalism sprinkled in), charity work is generally rare outside of the few tasks Nanamo and Raubahn can scrape funds for within the Immortal Flames.

Nanamo and Raubahn are at odds with certain aspects of the merchant class as they both want to aid the refugees pouring into city. The whole "for coin and for country" mantra truly is the root of Ul'dah's culture, so both the higher class and many working Ul'daln people think of them as leeches.

Also, as for Nanamo's tearful breakdown: She's 16 years old, and became Sultana at 6. She's a child who's been grappling with politics since she was learning to read and write. Her breakdown on Raubahn, her ally and friend, is understandable.

According to the minion description, she's actually around 20, and was crowned at (barely) age 5 [she was about 15 when the Calamity struck, and its been 5 years-ish since then]

Ah, maybe I'm looking at 1.0 data then. Thank you for the correction.

Even at 20, even as an adult by most societies' estimation, that's awfully young to be considered to be responsible for the welfare of an entire nation. Nanamo definitely has a heavy burden to bear!

I knida wish we coulda seen the bit depicted in the Tales from the Dragonsong War in Ul'dah in person instead of having to read about it in supplementary material. That particular story gives a lot of perspective on 2.55 and finally gives it some meaningful resolution besides "Lol it's all k now go kill some dragons". And yes I know they go over it in the victory lap quests, but I don't really feel that's enough for something potentially this important.
