As a healer, is it my job to DPS? A new perspective.

What a great community spirit i see in this thread. Basically if you don't agree with the pack you get pounced on. GJ guys!, still guess this all kind off moot now since cleric stance is gone. Praise be to the squenix godz!

Letting this thread stay on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th+ page would have been the preferable option. After 175 pages, even I think it's time for this one to die, and I'm normally willing to spend all day explaining why good healers in FFXIV use their entire kit.

Don't make things up to make yourself look special. You can't and won't use the entire kit. Because that'd get in the way of damage, nobody uses sleep anymore, most how'd advocate DPS healing refuse to AoE, stoneskin, neglect to use HoTs in favor of ANYTHING that'll do damage even marginally even if your time is shortened because of it, settle for bare minimums never keeping players below 50% if you could get away with it sabotaging PLD and soon WAR DPS, refuse to accept the fact you are NOT part of raid's required DPS, and worst of all, will throw standards completely out the window just to applaud any healer who does attack even if they've been so bad you might as well not been there. So bad the PLD or summoner could do a better job.

What are you going on about? I think my meaning was quite clear. Your meaning, on the other hand, I don't even care to make sense of.

I've mained WHM for most of HW after getting sick and tired of all the bullsh** from maining a Dragoon...

I was taught by end game raiders how to play...so I know how to DPS, i know when to heal...and i look at the changes and go "i'm not going to be DPSing...a lot with the new WHM stuff"


Not saying I don't want to DPS, but with so much of my class now surrounding Cure 1/2, it will be harder, there's no longer "see how it goes on that first pull to see how much healing i have to do." it may take considerably longer for me to actually become comfortable enough to DPS again because i'm going in on a wholly underpowered class that's been gutted and left like a fish at the end of the day at the market. (personal feelings, not reflecting all WHMs, a chunk, yes, but not all)

I've even ended up Healing in CS through a good portion of the dungeons because....i have huge Heal CDs, i only really had to drop for Medica 2/Regen...and then right back unless some Mechanic i know is coming needs to be addressed. Half the reason i DPS so much is, like Nimras said, there's really not enough DMG going out to the other members to justify..only healing. did I do nothing but healing early on? yes, Pre-50. then i found my Healer Balls (TM!) and started using them.

Shouldn't this just apply to every job period? Everyone should use their kit, but there's this incorrect mindset of "I'm a role not a job" when you most certainly are a job, that is your identity and that job identity is what fills a role—not the other way around.

It is my personal belief that if someone isn't even attempting to use their full kit, healer, tank or DPS they are dead weight and should find something better to do with their time. The idea that someone can be so selfish and misguided in an MMO of all things shows a lack of courtesy that I am sure annoys many people to no end; myself included.

This is exactly what this whole thing is about. Everyone should try to play their job in a way that's most effective and beneficial to their party. That's it.
