    Free Company Events(Campaign) Idea

    Hello! I didn't know what forum a gameplay idea involving Free Company perks should go so I posted it here. Everyone can participate in campaigns. You just get extra perks for doing Campaign with Free Company members. This is an idea for bringing a campaign system here to XIV and adding more reasons to reside in a free company.

    I still think craft and gather should be incorporated into the idea. Otherwise it just becomes Campaign 2.0 create defense structures, towers,ballista etc without these then the area will fall.

    Me too but the devs went away from mishmashing the disciples together. MY fate idea at least gives crafters/gatherers something to do together besides sit in town or do guildleves.

    The thing is, FATEs are already technically 'Campaign Lite'... only without the whole silly region control aspect, which actually serves no purpose here in FFXIV, given that region control is already de facto handled by each citystate (for instance, the Black Shroud is already considered 'Gridanian territory' by default) - also remember Campaign in FFXI was a way of depicting FFXI's apocalyptic Crystal War in gameplay terms - as the beastmen here not only lack that organization the beastmen had in FFXI (for starters, there is no central figure the beastmen can rally behind unlike FFXI's Shadowlord), here they seem less interested in raging fullscale war on the citystates and more just resort to summoning their Primal to do their dirty work, which we are already dealing with.

    FFXIV also lacks such a iconic and centralized major conflict like the Crystal War as well in it's backstory, at least as far as the beastmen are concerned (unless you count the incursions by the Garlean Empire into Eorzea as that, and even then they've overstretched themselves and thus are in no actual position to wage a fullscale conflict against Eorzea), thus completely eliminating the whole point of Campaign in the first place. Beastmen in Eorzea are not like their Vana'dielian kin - they're less organized and more esoteric here in that they prefer to listen to the 'Paragons' and summon Primals than waste time and resources attacking the citystates in open warfare, thus making this whole concept moot.

    Also given the fact I actually recommended a slight change to FATEs back during the Beta to make them more like Campaign (namely, adding something like Allied Tags to them instead of just allowing players to join a FATE automatically regardless if they want to or not), but that it never has been acknowledged or added, I think it's pretty telling SE are committed to keeping FATEs as they are and are not interested in adding a fullscale Campaign system to the game I'm sorry.

    I know SE stance on a lot of things has been keep it simple. At some point the keep it similar or simple thing is going to explode though. As you already see in people saying each expansion isn't hugely different from the previous.

    Same thing with quests. The FED-EX model is used more commonly and I am not saying SE is the sole bad guy here. I can say with confidence that people do want depth over breadth, the argument comes in when depth equates to drastic lengths introducing time sinks.
