How possible is it, to have a game tutorial like those in fighting games i.e. Street Fighter/MvC where players have to hit a target with a specific sequence of attacks as specified in the instructions? This could be used to teach newer players how to properly do combo skills, when to use AOEs, when to pop ability etc. Basically the game will have an instance where the mechanics for the tutorial can be implement (special instance since I think it will not be possible to put it in the current game world). Instructions like, press "Spinning Edge" or press "Spinning Edge->Gust Slash->Dancing Edge" with explanation for what they do, why should we use them, dispersed within the tutorial. Button press instructions will of course begin from simple 1 button press to the more complex combos and priority systems. Successful execution will unlock the next set of instructions until completion.
Since combos/abilities are specific to the different jobs, one good way to put the "entrances" to this training instance will be at their respective job masters location i.e. Y'shtola's sister's location for SMN (cannot remember her name).By putting these training instances into the game, they are made part of the game, and players will have to go through them before hitting the more advanced areas. This should also lessen the problems of the "quiet player"(those players who do not know what to do and does not communicate) and "you don't pay my sub, don't go telling me what to do" players since it will be part of the game itself.
The reason that I created this post is due to personal observation that there is an increasing number of newer players that seems to be unsure how to play their class/job even at a basic level i.e. skill combos, ability usages etc even in roulette level contents. Problem with this game is that there are no practical tutorials to teach new players how to play, other than the tooltips and they have to rely on community information for the job's basic and advance functions (kudos to the guys and gals who created those guides) despite going through 50 levels of contents.
Most older players who have been with game since 2.0 have been trained for 1.5 years before Heavensward through lots of dungeon runs, trials (Titan HM back then anyone) and the Coils of Bahamut (especially Second Coil onwards, where real dps checks are put in place. Raiders have to really bring their A game) to use their jobs to at least a basic level of proficiency. With newer players, they have to finish ARR contents in a much shorter time period then suddenly dumped with 5 new skills even before they can master their level 50's. Come new expansion and new level cap, there will be even more clueless gamers. While we are reaching our 3rd anniversary with this game and there are new players everyday joining us, more and more older players have to tone down their playtime or even quit the game due more RL commitments (studies, work, getting married and having kids) and other stuff, resulting in a "talent drain" in the game community; more and more players who can barely play properly and less and less players who can play at a higher level. In closing, I believe that the game will need to teach the newer players (and to some older players who still dunno how to use their jobs) the methods to playing up till a basic capacity before the talent drain makes even the easiest of content completely undo-able due to the drop in average skill level of the players.
P.S. It has been quite a while since I wrote an essay.... getting too old for this lol
