If I want to invite someone to my party, I'd really like to be able to type something like this to do it. I'm surprised I can't already!

I haven't tried it as a text command, but supposedly it should work, according to
http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest.../text_command/
/invite
USAGE:
/invite "PC name"
→Invites the specified PC to your party. Invites current target when no name is specified.
I saw that, which made me think it was a thing, but I've never been able to do it successfully (I'm on ps4 if that helps).
Are you sure you remembered to put the player name to quotation marks? The macro/text command interface doesn't usually like multiple word parameters where one parameter is needed, even if it's obvious it's be many words anyway. Quotation marks fix that making it a single word, technically speaking.
Have you tried
/pcmd add "PC name"
?
It used to be the party command to invite someone in FFXI and I think at least in FFXIV 1.x. I am quite positive, it is still the valid way in ARR/HW but I cannot verify right now.
oh so it's more like /inv "Stormfur Greymane" ?
/pcmd add "name
This command does still work.
Yep all the old party command lines still work.
I use them all the time.
A macro to invite my static to a party works wonders.
