Hi folks, still new at the game, playing about a year off and on. First forum post. Just curious about something.

Say I'm running through the central shroud, see a lower level player and decide to cast protect on them to help out. Is that allowed? Do I need to form a party to do that? Can I just randomly help out? Or is that frowned upon?

Actually that's the other way around - Protect only works on party members, Stoneskin can be cast on others outside your party.

But yes, random acts of kindness are definetely not frowned upon - whether someone will thank you though is another thing sadly. But don't let that discourage you from helping anyone you meet. Who knows, you might just make a new friend out of it!

The only thing you need to be careful about is healing someone if you are a lot higher level than them. You'll probably get hate on the enemy and they will run over to you which can potentially be annoying to the other player.

There's a string of achievements (The Kindness of Strangers) for raising players that aren't in your party. (200 times for the fifth such achievement and you get the title: Good Samaritan)

Healing or buffing random players is generally encouraged as well (though as Estellios mentioned, try not to draw hate with over-healing unless the player appears to be in trouble and really need it).
