FFXI community/FFXIV transition my minor testiment (long post)

I think Duty Finder is the biggest culprit when it comes to lack of community. In XI you were forced to associate with the people on your server if wanted to get anything significant done. Duty Finder in XIV allows you to complete pretty much any content if you wait long enough, without the need to even remember people's names.

You make a good point, but the words you used to describe both games are ineteresting. FFXI "forced", but FFXIV "allows".

Both games have their virtues to different players, but I'm sure a marketing team would avoid the word "forced" when attempting to place something in a positive light.

If you sit around waiting for "community" to suddenly happen, guess what? You're going to be sorely disappointed. You have a right to complain about lack of "community" only to the extent you, yourself, are willing to contribute.

That first "community" in that Other Game didn't arrive full blown from the mind of Cid. It required dedicated people to put it into place. If you, yourself, are not willing to do that, why would anyone else?

tldr; Work towards the community you'd like to see rather than complaining about the community you don't see.

So, you haven't read any of the forum posts where "this guy" writes about my experiences with starting to play FFXI?

That Other Game could just as easily be EQ, EQ2, WoW, SW:TOR, TSW, B&S, GW2, ESO ...

Nope. But for completeness sake did. I actually went back and started to read old topic replies and "That other Game" has only been used to reference FFXI until you actually went and started to play it. Sure it could be used to reference a different game...but it isn't. I was just pointing out the funny. And as for addressing your actual point. I find it a moot point arguing over FFXI vs FFXIV on the official forums anymore because most of the people who have preferred XI to XIV have moved on and most all that is left on the forums usually light people up for even daring to mention.... That other Game. The silent majority usually don't post here and are hunted with torches and pitchforks whenever they do.

So after reading and posting on this thread I decided to take advantage of the free login just for fun. I never un-installed the game only canceled the sub. Then I hit a brick wall trying to login using the playonline client, telling me incorrect password WTF! After changing my password and all I still get the same results. Oh well. If anyone knows how to resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

Playonline was always wonky, as it had some weird client-only password separate from your actual SE password, and may require customer service to reset.
