Is this something that people do? It would seem that you can level an alt a heck of a lot faster that doing all the grinding. But I thought that any xp you gain in there does not transfer outside POTD?

If you play with a class that isn't yet 60 then you get exp for completing every 10 floors instead of tomes. That exp counts, not the exp you get by progressing.
IME, it's 10% xp after every boss.
It's quite a big chunk of XP in the early levels - with the armory bonus, I got just under one level every 10 floors up to level 30 (no idea how it looks beyond). If you start from level 1, all 50 floors will net you level 14 with the bonus.
It gets quite a bit worse later I reckon, but it's still not too shabby.
I would still choose to level in regular dungeons over potd.
PoTD should be used to test the job to 60. It works as a method of leveling but its just another method of leveling, not the best.
It isn't a bad option, I leveled from 52-57 just on PotD alone with, I wanna say 4 full runs. Granted thats roughly 9 hours or so.
It's my new preferred method for leveling, especially for DPS as the queues are much shorter. I still find it fun, and until i don't, I'll keep doing it. Pepper in a daily leveling dungeon, it makes for a comfortable advancement with little effort. I do feel like I need alot of practice on those alt jobs tho, as killing in POTD is different than killing elsewhere, you don't really get a chance to learn or practice rotations.
