The fact it's a Final Fantasy. I mean, at least in story and name.

Don't want to lose my small house and my mansion. That's about it ATM. I keep my sub rolling for aforementioned housing reasons, so hopefully that isn't all the devs are looking at when they consider population flux.
That said, I recognize that this is the kind of game that encourages you to take breaks, so even though I'm bored with the "cap tomestones and do weekly quests on my DPS class that sometimes puts a HoT up on the MT" content cycle I still browse news and upcoming patch teasers just to see if there's anything that can hook me back in. I think the major changes I'm looking for won't come until 4.0 (if they come at all), so with Legion dropping on the 30th this might be quite the extended hiatus for me.
Two of my friends love the game so much they're doing everything all over again on their third alts, though. So XIV really takes all kinds, I think. It's not a bad thing.

Something to do... especially in the summer when most of the shows I watch are on hiatus. And I enjoy collecting the minions.

There are a lot of good points. I definitely will also go through surges, where I'll start to log in and do a few things and then log off. Then something will spark my interest. And I'll get back into a rhythm of looking forward to getting off work to log in.
Currently I'm casually doing the relic. Been really focused the past few weeks on leveling Monk and gearing it. I main caster, but gonna work in some triple melee in our static.
Just finished the first Yo-Kai mount, and I think I'll casually grab the weapons but I'm not grinding it.
Still need to do the seasonal event as well. And probably start PotD again to be at 30/30 for when the next floors drop.
Currently it's my friends and interest in raiding in 3.4. I like the aesthetics, the communities I'm in, and the jobs I play catch my interest.
Yet I'm barely clinging to my sub, as many friends have unsubbed the past few months and I've had a lot of disappointments. A few of them left for WoW and I seriously considered going as well (went on the free trial, asked about similar classes, etc.). I stuck to FFXIV because it's familiar and I know more people here who I'd otherwise just play HotS or Starbound with.
PVP is worse than ever and I'm sick to death of FATEs. I loved the first Moonfire Faire because the FATEs were packed so you could people-watch, even while crafting, and the crafting was just crafting.

I made a long post detailing my personal reasons in another topic not so long ago, but I was so embarrassed about one or two details that were are a little too honest of me come the next morning that I hadn't visited the forums for a while..... until now.... so with that said, I won't list a bunch of things again but I will say that having a lot of alts and an appreciation for the flavoury side of the game is a real bonus.
Honestly right now its only the storyline, I am consdering just resubbing every 6 months, do the story and sidequest and stop playing untill they have released more MSQ. I tend to level classes or do PvP, but my final battle class is almost 60 and PvP is a mess in this game. One thing that I am starting to dislike is how they are stuck in a status que, aside from new ideas (which are failures, in my opinion) 3.0 is a carbon copy of 2.0.
It doesnt help for me that Diadem, Lord of Verminion and Palace of Dead are boring content.

Things to clear and farm. Like birds from extream trials and gears from savage raids. Also the story and I want to get everything to 60. Playing with my friends in real life and the ones I made online![]()
"BAAAAAARD!" - 2018
New outfits and stuff, but some of the can be a real pain to get. Like, summer sandals and the gear from raids. And, I always try to play all of the new content, but the Yokai Watch event takes up all of my time right now.

I never intended for this list, but I like it. I'll chime in with mine.
Main Story - Done
Side Quests - I have minimap OCD. Gotta to be clear of all quests.
Crafting/Gathering - All crafts, miner and bot to 60. Mainly used to be self sufficient in raid food and potions.
Glamour - Always
Mount-/Minionfarming - very casually
Raiding - Absolutely. Favorite thing to do.
Housing - Have a house but I'm slowly furniting it.
Gold Saucer - Try to remember to daily cactpots, but usually forget. None of the minigames interest me.
24-man Raids - Still doing these for gear, farthings, and machi matter.
Sightseeing - Only when I stumble upon one.
Beasttribes - Usually just get max rank and then forget about them.
Dungeons - I usually only run dungeons to tag along with friends or help out someone new.
Seasonal events - Always.
Leveling multiple classes - I have many classes leveled, but taking a break for now. I keep a tank, melee, caster and healer geared for content. Not interested in leveling more currently.
Mentoring - I enjoy mentoring
Making Gil - Haven't since favor farming became useless.
Relic Weapons - I'm casually doing this. Currently at 146/240. Damn umbrite takes too long to get when you barely run roulettes.
Deep Dungeon - I really enjoy this. Got a couple of weapons and probably grab a few more.
