    Deathgaze Dragons

Okay I would like to know what Deathgazes are. They seem to have a few oddities compared to the other dragons

    • They seem to be uninvolved with the Dragonsong War, outside an early dragoon quest. In fact they seem to be found only outside Dravanaia and in area like the Shroud, the Palace of the Dead and outer La Noscea.
    • They have more in common them most of XII's Aeveses then they do with XIV's (which are based off XII's Cateract Aevis,) as such they can fly
    • Like the aforementioned Aevises, they don;t seem to be transformed Humans (or rather transformed Elezen/Mi'qote/Lalafell/Hyur) or else Ishgard or Gridania would had mentioned it
    • They seem to have a connection to the Void, given the name and presence in Gridiania and Palace of the Dead.
So what are these dragons exactly?

    Are they really dragons though?

    I according to http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Death_Gaze

They're Cloudkin, whereas all the known Dragon types are listed as Scalekin.

I actually don't think they're any of those.

Despite deathgaze and the aevis family sharing DNA in XII, and especially despite Simurgh being called a Cloudkin in the FATE description, every last hint points to deathgaze being voidsent. They show up along other voidsent, they come out of voidgates, some of them have names with the word void in it - although that last one doesn't prove anything on its own since the Thaumaturge brothers prove that not-voidsent can be called voidsent if only the NPCs believe them to be so (aka the Deepvoid Deathmouse Effect).

The Dragons in Amdapor Keep HM and later PoTD floors, plus the Deepvoid Deathmouse effect prove that Dragons and Voidsent are not mutually exclusive categories. With that said, I feel like the Void Dragons are another enimga entirely, what are your thoughts on those?

While I don't recall either being in Keep (HM) at the moment, I do recall two dragons that you might be referring to: The Dahak and the Bone Dragon.

The former seems to be a straight "void dragon". They were (allegedly) from the underworld in FFXI, and it doesn't seem like much has changed here. Voidsent come in all shapes and sizes, most of the non-leadership generally being a more-terrifying version of something that vaguely exists naturally (perhaps that's the point, I don't know). Demons might be thought of as void humanoids and hippogryphs as void hounds, to create a parallel for "void dragon".

The Bone Dragon, though, is most likely an ashkin ... but there's a catch! Though the game never states it explicitly, I believe that ashkin are any corporeal remains reanimated by any outside force, and that many, many ashkin are actually corpses possessed by voidsent (especially skeletons and bone dragons).

Deepvoid Deathmouse I suspect is just a rat, but you try telling that to the Gridanians. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And here I am getting the Keep confused with the City. :P

I apologize for the confusion. I know there were Dragon mobs in one of the Amdapor dungeons, but I goofed and typed Keep instead of City. The dragons in Lost City HM, Labyrinth, and Palace could be zombies like you posit

Those are likely undead dragons...which would be closer to Voidsent (though really Ashkin, right?)

(I'm also expecting you mean Lost City HM...there are no dragons in AK...and those [in Lost HM] are almost certainly undead dragons)
