controller issue

as the title says i play FF14 on the pc with a controller, i used to use a ps3 controller via usb cord but the cord was always loose and would unplug alot if i barely moved the controller which made tanking/healing a pain so i switched over to bluetooth today after i bought a dongle,

the problem is now that iam using the controller on my pc via bluetooth i cant get it to work anymore, the controller works fine for everything except FF14 for whatever reason it doesnt want to work anymore and i need help trying to diagnose the problem.

i have my controller hooked up as 360 emulation via montioninenjoy and it used to work fine (and still does) except when i try to play FF14

(inb4 you should use that wrapper its much better) iam sure the wrapper works perfectly for you but me for it doesnt work at all so i dont bother wasting my time with it

Don't use motioninjoy, last I recall it requires an online connection and can act as a backdoor to malware. BetterDS3 uses the motioninjoy driver but does not have ads or need an online connection (i.e. much safer). Since you have motioninjoy already you can get betterds3 and yeah. Can probably find a tutorial for that, all I remember is you can uninstall the motioninjoy program but make sure to keep the actual driver so betterds3 can use it.

As for the issue itself, try recalibrating the controller in the game (hit configuration on the title screen then gamepad options, click begin next to calibration and make sure you select the controller you're using). The game might be detecting another device as the default controller. Hopefully that's all it is.

If not, hate to say since they're like $50 a pop, it might just be easier to invest in a PS4 controller to use with that bluetooth dongle you got, Inputmapper can use it. (Also FFXIV actually detects the PS4 controller via USB without 3rd party software, unlike the DS3. The DS4 is detected as a direct input controller [dinput], whereas the DS3 has no official PC support).

I played on PC for while and used a PS4 controller using bluetooth, didn't use any 3rd party programs only thing is had to have a power cord near by cause using it straight with no program had no notice of low battery so when I died had to plug it in to keep using it.

I also use a PS4 controller with the PC version and I do not use another program to enable its use in the game.

There is a fix to the motion joy internet connection but i can't remember where it is. It gets rid of the adds and stuff but honestly your better off using a ps4 controller instead.

The Logitech F310 Gamepad is a pretty solid alternative as well, it's plug and play as well, and runs in both Dinput and Xinput, has mapping software you can get off the logitech website as well. I always had issues with my ps3 and 4 controllers on pc, and this seriously made things so much easier for me. It's fairly cheap as well, so that's a bonus!


Edit: There is a wireless alternative with the Logitech F710, if that's more your thing

sometimes I have the same problem, for some reason, sometime the controller resets in the ingame options to something like "Wireless controller" because your emulated click that and switch it to "360 controller" not sure if it will help you, but always another option to try

I use and xbox one wireless controller with the xbox one adapter. Works fine

Your issue seems to be using a controller that is not supported and thus needs 3rd party programming.
Might I suggest getting a supported controller, that way you are plug and play.
(Official Sony or Microsoft controllers)
