I've always considered overcamping to be extremely ill mannered. I don't need to ruin someone elses fun to get my own.
not trying to start a race war here but just wanted to mention...
Before the NA release on FFXI (even after JP's tried) when there was a group of people already at the camp, JP's normally went up to them and ask if it's OK to take the other side of the spot, or camp at the same place like say Crawlers Nest area...
Would be nice if players had that kind of thinking/manner and try to play nice with others...
If 2.0 has more instanced areas it will solve this part of the issue so I guess I can just wait but sometimes I do miss those old days. But then again in FFXIV... I'm on like a dead server so wherever I go it's almost always open.... so doesn't bother me at all lol. Only bothered me in FFXI lol
I feel like HNM Is competitive, EXP is for sure First come First Serve.
I went to the Sipahi Turban Camp 4 times and a party was there each time, when I came back a fifth time and there was still a party there I gave up and decided to outclaim them. I actually had more fun competing for the drop. It kept me much more engaged.
There's another party killing an important monster.
Your party wants to kill that important monster.
In these cases I would act either as follow:
Eitherway it will be fun, the competitions could add some passive PvP on the monster claiming.
- Wanna take turns?
- Wanna team up?
- Wanna compete?
for nm's and hnm's i think it is fine, also for mobs that are for drops/pop items/farming what have you. i personally found it annoying though when people try to camp over you in exp grind camps like in ffxi birds cause they couldn't be arsed to go check a diff camp or just didn't care. but i will admit though, when there is no alternatives and every camp is full i'm not gonna just not exp grind so i might try to take over a camp myself so i can't cry bout it. also fighting for a camp is little more exciting then the regular grind so once in while i kinda enjoy the competition. but that will depend on the players, some in group will just leave you high and dry if get camped on. or if you decide to stay at camp with people they will threaten to leave making your group disband either way most likely.
so yes, nm's ...no with exp grinds.
lol funny story in ffxiv though, when archers were op and coblyns were the only choice 2 archers came and took over a camp me and like 4 others were party'ing on ...after an hour of them 2shoting/1 shot with both of them every mob in zone everyone quit. i changed to my rank 50 con and though i new i couldn't keep up killing them so they got bad exp ...i took every coblyn's hp down to like 95% ..so it didn't die and it had to regenerate hp for them to get any sp. i was able to keep almost all the mobs at that low number running around cause they regen slow. so they had to kill them off to repop new ones or wait. so for that 90mins or so they got very very bad sp. lollol. if rest of group didn't quit on me they would of gotten 0sp. but after that i got tired. they didnt quit witch usually after a hour or 2 they do. and i got invite to something else so i left them be. /roar.

Do unto others as you wish to be done unto you.
Because I like competition, I both welcome it and seek it out. By this I mean, if someone else decides they should be able to camp on top of my group, then I proceed and demonstrating for them the mistake they have made. Usually those groups fall apart completely or they move elsewhere. Additionally, I will also take camps forcibly by taking monsters and out killing other groups. If I should fail, my group is no more succeptible to falling apart or feeling like a noob and having to move to another camp.
However, in the end, the most effective group is then able to take advantage of the most effective camps. While the groups that are not able to use the camp to its fullest, move on somewhere else where they are likely to not see any decrease in exp aside from them having to relocate.
So for my method, I win and lose, but I accept the outcome.
But, I will only choose to exercise this method when I see the opportunity. Which means, the persons in the camp, either are not prepared to take advantage of the camp at the moment (LIKE BEING AFK OR NOT FULLY ASSEMBLED), or there are a sufficient number of mobs still to take, meaning the group already there cannot take full advantage of the camp itself, and really should move elsewhere.
When it's a regular EXP group, we move on to another one.
Last night, the most viable camp for use was taken over by a power level group. We fought back and took most of the claims considering the level 50 was doing the work and the rest were sitting in a corner. Funny thing was they tried to call us lazy and to find another camp... Really? Who's being power leveled? Thank you.
So if it's exp groups, be kind and courteous. If it's a power level group, take over the camp always!

dont bite off more then you can chew, most of those power leveling groups already have multiple 50s so then it will just turn into a pointless battle that no one wins at +1 for no one, you may think you caused them grief but you have also wasted your own time as well.
No, I am somewhat winning. I'm still gaining exp. When they change to their multiple 50's, they are only wasting their own time. I'm still gaining exp
