The fair solution which I see happen a lot since on my server everyone plays with each other for the most part. During situations like groups camping coffers when we see another group we acknowledge them then we make the request that we want to do this too.

And then we go do another coffer and then we'll rotate after so long. Since the drops are insanely 1 in 100 zillion anyways...a little nice communication and sharing never hurt anyone.

Cross party communication is very important. There's a lot of bad blood that gets associated with the person and to the linkshell this person is equipped with at the time.

To me, the priority of a camp goes to:
Appropriate level ~ A party that is in the appropriate level range to chain off these enemies.

    First come, first serve
~ A party that has been dwelling at the camp before others.

    Farmer need before greed
~ No one is at the camp, farmer needs some components to complete an item or series of items.

Farmer greed and power leveling one person
~ Are at the bottom of the priority totem. They should be the most flexible when it comes to the above. If a farmer is going for a stack of 99 to cushion an XP grind, make multiple replacement sets (to cover materia'd items), or looking to sell the components, then this is greed (not a bad thing). But would hope they would be more flexible to even a new party coming up to the spot, since the farmer could be at the camp for an indefinite amount of time. Or the power leveler that is only power leveling one or two people. Be flexible. If you see a party of six trying to grind on the same monsters and they want to be power leveled too, and you have room? Don't resist, be flexible. You were power leveling anyway. And if you were adamant about no one joining you, you and by association, the power level-ee, have set a bad impression to a party of six or more players, who usually end up discussing their disgruntlement in party and in linkshell. And bad blood continues.

The exception to most of this? A level appropriate party of eight that gets power leveled and hands the desired components to the power leveler as compensation.

I've revisited my post after being distracted for a while, it's probably incoherent.

For EXP Camps, I dont camp on top of others nore would I go steal some mobs.

For mobs that you need to kill for materials, well you can go anywhere for them basically so long as in level range, if hard to find other mobs at the right level, it sometimes comes down to what choice do you have, compete, all mobs are free.

If people camp on top of me I just out claim them.

I dunno, I've always been a territorial mithra/miqo'te, (yeah I have a Lala, but she's not my main. X3). If someone moves in on my space I'll stay and compete till I drive them off. >:3

I've never had my party move in on someone else's space. :x Yet.
If I was leader I'd find a free spot.
If my party leader wanted to move in on another party and was being rude I'd probably end up apologizing to that party. XD

    Edit:
I have certain rules for myself.
I would never ask someone to leave for moving in on "my" space because I don't own the monsters or anything, I won't be rude to them. XD Free for all. But if they move in on me they better not expect me to leave. ;3
If I see them obviously running up to a monster to claim it, I leave it be. Besides that I keep to myself, mind my own business and continue what I was doing. I'll claim any monster I can as long as I don't see them heading right for it.
But if they go for ones that I'm obviously going for(and I mean more than a few times).. weapon out, right about to hit it.. It's on. >.> lol
I never get mad though. The competition makes things interesting.

I like this post and mostly agree. Especially with the "if you were here first" bit. I think if you walk into a camp and see it's occupied you should go and find somewhere else instead of being a total ass**** and causing unneccesary aggravation.

Of course, as some posters have already pointed out, some people don't give a rat's *** about civility when playing a game and will deliberately try and push a party out to make themselves feel superior. It's sad and childish, but unfortunately that's just part of the people that play this game. Fortunately it's still a relatively small proportion compared to certain other games which shall remain nameless (but you know which I mean ).

On one hand if a party has been in a spot camping something for a while, it is a bit rude for someone to just stroll in and start trying to take mobs. It's a tough call when it comes down to the key dropping mobs in say the beastmen strongholds though. Technically you can treat this like old school HNMs in FF11 and whoever gets the claim, to the spoils go the victor, at the risk of pissing off other people.

Funny story: My linkshell was camping the sentinel boots and had been there for at least an hour when this other linkshell with a group of 4 strolls in and just stands on top of the key mob spawn. We got most of the claims, but they'd occasionally get one. They weren't equipped to handle the adds that pop with it so we'd just sit back till they died and then take the mob. Might be asinine, but we've had the common courtesy that wherever we go we don't just jump in on someone's camp. Anyway, they did this like 6 times, but by then I had already gotten the boots and we left.

Edit: In the case of PL vs at level party, whoever is there first should be entitled to the camp. Just because you're high level doesn't give you any higher authority to try to push people out of a camp.

FFXIV needs some 21-24 hour spawns and then we'll see how civil everyone is.......

I've always considered overcamping to be extremely ill mannered. I don't need to ruin someone elses fun to get my own.
