    FFXIV and cross-server friends

People are always going to want to play with their friends. Or people with similar interests, where they're likely to make friends and find fellow adventurers.

This basic facet of human nature isn't going to change; but systems can be designed to accommodate it, rather than suffer from it.

    * How much less congestion might there be if there was no need to get on "the raid server" or "the RP server" or "the server my favorite streamer is on", and so on?
    * How many would-be newbies never even get started because they can't get into their friend's server?
    * How many more people might be willing to move to a smaller server, if moving wasn't an utter and complete cutoff to everyone we already know?
    * How many more friends might we all have if we could only see, talk, and play again with a good group we meet in the DF?

SE, please allow us to communicate and play with individuals from other servers.

I know this is no small thing to ask, but "it's difficult" could have been used as an excuse to have never developed the DF. I think it would add enough to the game to be worthwhile.

Something like this may be on SE to-do list since it's been asked for a lot by now but it's probably on a low priority list due to the fact it will be difficulty to implement.

For what it's worth, back when we were still transitioning from 1.xx to 2.0, I recall Yoshi-P commented somewhere that the foundation of the game is designed to allow them to transition to a system where the line between servers can be blurred closer to something like one of those "super shard" setups or whatever they're called. I'm not sure if that necessarily means much, but it sounds like they at least had the idea when designing 2.0, which should at least mean it's possible down the line.
