    1 Account 2 Computers

    Hello all,

I'm starting anew on this game and have no characters so can't post on other forums except here, hope that is okay... but I have played for awhile in the past.

I play on a Windows 10 PC at home, great gaming rig. However, I travel a lot. I want to play on a Macbook Pro (latest model). I believe the OS X version isn't really meant for a macbook so will play on a Windows 10 bootcamp partition. I'm just looking for the game to "work" on lowest settings... expectations lowered!

I own the "PC Download" version key right now. Am I allowed to install the game on the second computer and play on both of them with a single key? I.e. one character/account - two computers - playing at different times - 1 key.

I know I can do the above, but am I allowed to or should I buy a second key. Don't want to break the rules.

    Thanks.

I play the game on my desktop and have it installed on my laptop.

You can install the game as many times as you want; as long as you can log in with a valid account, you can play.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

PC version can be installed on as many PCs (or virtual PCs) as you like.
If you, for whatever reason, decided to play on PS4 you would need to buy an additional license for installation for that system.

When you buy a game key, you are buying a "license" to play on that specific platform. Once you own the license, you can play on that platform all you want. It's not limited to a specific device.

In other words, if I buy a PC license, I can play the game on any PC. If I buy a PS4 license, I can play on any PS4. You can also purchase licenses for multiple platforms on a single account. So you can buy both a PC and PS4 license and be able to log in with the same character on either device. You can not log in to both devices simultaneously, however.

    Some additional tips for you:

    1. You indicate you're already aware there is a Mac version that would allow you to run it on Mac OS natively. I don't personally know what the performance differences between that and what you're doing now are, though. And I suspect Mac and PC have separate licenses to purchase just like PS4 is different from PC. But again, my own personal knowledge is mostly limited to "There is a Mac version." I also recall they were unhappy with its original performance, pulled it, and then re-released it when they were happy with it later (much like FF14 itself). But it still seems surprising that a Windows version on a Mac pretending to be running Windows would perform better than the Mac version running directly on the Mac, regardless of what specific sort of Mac we're talking about.

    2. You may notice some slightly unexpected results from playing on multiple machines like this. Firstly, user interface customization like the HUD layout and hotbar configuration are stored locally on the specific device, not on a cloud like your character data. There are, however, launcher options to export and import such configuration manually.

    3. Logging in from different locations and devices tends to present some security alerts. I'd recommend using one of the one-time password options if you aren't already. Doing so will save you from needing to go through other, more annoying, hurdles when it sees you changing locations and machines.

If you plan on using the Windows platform on both machines that's completely fine and in fact there isn't a way to license them both separately or anything. If playing in OSX then you'd need that license as well, but 1,2, or 100 different Windows machines will all use the same license.

As EveK said, there are some slight annoyances with going back and forth between 2 different machines. Pretty much any user setting is saved locally, but that might be helpful anyway since it's possible that you want your UI to look different on your laptop compared to your desktop. To me the oddest thing is that your inventory 'shuffles' when you switch machines. I have absolutely no idea why, but logging in from a different machine will result in your inventory being a complete mess on the new machine, so hopefully you sort things with the default 'sort' function and not some specific manual method. Gearsets and the like are also locally so be sure to update them on both machines (the new equip best gear feature works pretty nicely for this).

    1 account 2 computers

    Hello everyone,
This is not working for me, I'm not managing to have the game installed in 2 computers.
1st my account got blocked for suspicious activity, which is already solved. Then I finally managed to figure out how to install the game client on the 2nd computer, but when I try to log in to my account I don't have that option. The only options available are for new ffxiv players and not existing ones and when I tryed to use one of those anyway it obviously failed.
    Any tips?
    Thanks,
    Auro

    Welcome to Eorzea!

If the launcher is defaulting to asking you to sign up with a SE Account when you already have one (like after reinstalling the game), try this:

In Windows, look for the 'FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn' folder in My Games (that should be in your personal folder under 'Users' and My Documents - you might need to turn on making hidden files and folders visible to see them). Then, click on the 'FFXIV_BOOT.cfg' file - if it asks you to associate a program with it when you do so, choose Notepad (it should already be associated with Notepad, but you never know). Then, once it's opened in Notepad, look for the following lines and ensure the numbers beside them are the following - if the numbers are something different, very very carefully change them to these numbers (copy the file beforehand and save it somewhere else just in case you make a mistake and can then reload it to try again):

    'Eula AgreementNT 0'
    'Eula Agreement 1'
    'StartupCompleted 1'
    'B4Eula Agreement 0'

Make sure if you change any of those numbers listed, they must be in the same position as they were in the file (not the spacings and position shown above) otherwise errors may occur.

Once you're done save the file (overwrite the original, ensuring you have it backed up), and close the folder. You should hopefully be able to login now (basically what you did was edit the configuration to make it remember that you're an existing player and not a new player who hasn't set up their account yet, by default it should give you both options) - doing so is completely fine and does not invalidate your SE account or anything as manually editing the config files are considered a last resort when something goes wrong (usually the game edits them automatically by default whenever you make a change to your settings in the client).

    Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for your answer, it didn't work because it seems I don't have that file, maybe because it didn't download the game yet? just the client. Anyway, I'm in the process of activation the one time password system, I think that will help to be able to log in.
